The Panther ski teams earned a season-best third place finish at the Dartmouth Carnival on February 12th and 13th. The host school won the event with 929 points, followed by UVM (877), Middlebury (743) and UNH (680). The men's 3x5 freestyle relay team of junior Graham Egan (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), rookie Dylan Grald (Randolph Center, Vt.) and junior Patrick Johnson (Anchorage, Alaska) won their event with a combined time of 38:53. Junior Nicole Dvorak (Essex Junction, Vt.) and junior Bobby Poehling (LaCrosse, Wis.) paced the alpine teams, each earning a second place finish in the slalom.
Dvorak followed up her performance in the slalom (1:42.79) with a fifth place finish in the GS (1:52.17). Junior Lindsay Kraft (Coldstream, B.C.) placed 15th in the GS (1:53.20), while earning the 21st slot in the slalom (1:46.90). Senior Leah McLaughry (Norwich, Vt.) was Middlebury's third scorer in the GS (1:53.42), while first-year racer Christine Schozer (Winhall, Vt.) came in 23rd (37.41) in the slalom.
After placing second in the slalom (1:30.56), Poehling earned the 14th spot (1:49.04) in the GS. Rookie Brian Shpall (Englewood, Colo.) was the top finisher in the GS with a 12th place finish (1:48.73), while placing eighth (1:32.28) in the slalom. Junior Jacob Lund (Hudson, Wis.) was Middlebury's third scorer in both events, placing 15th (1:32.99) in the slalom and 20th (1:49.80) in the GS.
Johnson was Middlebury's top racer in the 20K classic race, placing third overall with a time of 57:11. Grald finished the race in 10th place (59:07), followed by sophomore Chase Marston (Charlotte, Vt.) in 13th (59:25).
First-year race Corinne Prevot (East Burke, Vt.) and senior Lauren Fritz (Chugiak, Alaska) were Middlebury's top finishers in the 15K classic race. Prevot placed 10th in 50:27, followed by Fritz in 11th place with a time of 50.49. First-year racer Keely Levins (Rutland, Vt.) rounded out the scorers with a 26th place finish (52:01). The 3x5K freestyle relay comprised of the threesome placed seventh with a time of 48:06.
