The Middlebury College nordic and alpine ski teams earned a fourth place finish this weekend at the University of New Hampshire Carnival. Dartmouth won the event (901), followed by UNH (834), UVM (750) and Middlebury (674.5).
First-year racer Elise Moody-Roberts (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) had another solid weekend on the nordic side, placing fifth in the 10K freestyle race with a time of 30:14. Finishing 17th in the race was senior Cassidy Edwards (Glen Arbor, Mich.) with a time of 31:40, followed by sophomore Sophie McClelland (Keene Valley, N.Y.) in 20th (31:51). Moody-Roberts led the squad in the classic sprints, placing 10th overall, followed by junior racer Lauren Fritz (Chugiak, Alaska) in 11th and McClelland in 13th.
Senior Tim Reynolds (Bristol, Vt.) led the men with a sixth place finish in the 10K free race in 25:30. First-year player Chase Marston (Charlotte, Vt.) was next in 17th place (26:04), followed by sophomore Graham Egan (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) in 24th place (26:23). First-year racer Doug DeBold (Wayzata, Minn.) led the men in the classic sprints, placing ninth overall. Marston finished the race in 17th place, followed by first-year racer Noah Brautigam (Richmond, Vt.) in 20th and Reynolds in 24th.
Senior Mattie Ford (Plymouth, N.H.) paced the alpine women in the GS with an eighth place finish in 2:27.59. Finishing the race in 19th place was junior Leah McLaughry (Norwich, Vt.), followed by senior Tucker Burton (Breckenridge, Colo.) in 26th place (2:30.73). Burton led the team the next day with a fifth place finish in the slalom with a time of 1:39.73. Not far behind was Ford in seventh place (1:39.97), while sophomore Nicole Dvorak (Essex Junction, Vt.) rounded out the scorers with a 19th place finish (1:41.38).
Senior Andrew Wagner (Traverse City, Mich.) continued his strong season with a seventh place finish in the GS with a time of 2:19.37. Three spots back was junior Jonathan Hunter (McAfee, N.J.) in 10th (2:19.81), followed by junior Brian Swartz (Mendon, Vt.) in 25th (2:21.31) completing Middlebury's scorers. Wagner earned a seventh place (1:30.96) finish in the slalom, followed by sophomore Bobby Poehling (LaCrosse, Wis.) in 16th (1:31.79) and Hunter in 17th place (1:31.84).
