The Panther nordic and alpine ski teams raced to a third place finish over the weekend at the Williams Carnival. Vermont won the event, with Dartmouth edging Middlebury by one point to claim second place.
Junior Evelyn Dong (Wayland, Mass.) led the women's nordic team with a third place finish in the 10K freestyle race, finishing with a time of 25:29. Behind her in fourth place (25:46) was first-year racer Cassidy Edwards (Glen Arbor, Mich.), followed by senior Claire Anderson (Whitefish, Mont.) in 13th (27:00). In the 3x4 freestyle relay, the team of Edwards, Dong and junior Jenny Hamilton (Aspen, Colo.) finished third overall with a time of 39:14.
Senior Jake Whitcomb (Worthington, Mass.) paced the men's squad with a third place finish in the 10K freestyle race, coming in with a time of 22:26. Just behind him in fourth place was senior Garrott Kuzzy (Minneapolis, Minn.) in 22:30, followed by first-year racer Tim Reynolds (Bristol, Vt.) in ninth (22:55). The threesome comprised Middlebury's top group in the 3x4 freestyle relay race, placing third with a time of 34:44.
On the alpine side, sophomore Megan Hughes (Killington, Vt.) turned in a second place finish in 1:38.91 to lead the team in the GS race. Placing 12th was sophomore Krissy Poehling (LaCrosse, Wis.) (1:43.23), followed by first-year skier Mattie Ford (Plymouth, N.H.) in 13th (1:43.48).
Hughes was on top of her game in the slalom race, winning the event with a time of 46.04, with the race being shortened to just one run. Ford finished sixth overall (47.02), followed by Poehling in 10th (47.89).
The men were solid in the GS race, placing skiers in third, fifth and sixth places. Junior Andrew Everett (Andover, Mass.) led the pack in 1:36.74, followed by sophomore Richard Davisson (Bethel, Maine) in fifth (1:37.04) and first-year racer Andrew Wagner (Traverse City, Mich.) in sixth (1:37.09).
In the slalom race, Wagner led the team in 18th place with a time of 2:05.87. Sophomore Joseph Swensson (Niantic, Conn.) came in 21st (2:06.56), followed Everett in 28th (2:14.57).
