The Middlebury cross country teams continued their seasons Saturday at the Bates Invitational at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, Maine. The women finished in third place out of four teams with 241 points as Tufts won the team title with 97 points, while the men scored 295 points for a fourth-place showing with the host Bobcats tallying 109 points to earn the crown. The Panthers return to action next Saturday when they host the Aldrich Invitational. The men's race starts at 10:00 a.m., while the women's competition begins at 11:00 a.m.
During the men's 8K race consisting of 76 participants, Quinlan McGaugh led Middlebury with a 10th-place run of 26:34.4, while Jack Litowitz was three spots behind in 13th place (26:44.0). Graham Rainsby wound up in the 21st spot (27:00.8), while Liam Hoagland (25th, 27:10.4) and Connor Montgomery (26th, 27:10.9) rounded out the top-five Panther finishers.
Leading the Panther women in the 5K race comprised of 77 women was Talia Ruxin with a seventh-place time of 18:44.5. Cassie Kearney finished 10th in 19:07.8, while Meg Wilson was next in 14th place (19:14.0). Chloe Smith in 16th (19:18.1) and Sophie Nardelli in 28th (19:49.7) completed the scorers.
