Middlebury College cross country coach Nicole Wilkerson has been named the New England Region Men’s Coach of the Year by the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association). In just her second season as head coach, Wilkerson led the men’s team to its first NCAA Regional win last weekend at Westfield State. Both her men’s and women’s teams will take part in the 2012 NCAA Championship races at LaVern Gibson Course in Terre Haute, Indiana this Saturday.
Wilkerson took over the reins of the cross country program in 2011 after working as an assistant coach with the program for the previous nine seasons. She also maintains her role as an assistant coach with the track & field program enabling her to work with several of the athletes for nine months a year. She has been responsible for creating several workout programs for both teams and has coached almost 30 All-Americans. In her first season as head coach, Wilkerson was named both the men's and women's New England Region Coach of the Year. She has been an active member of the College community, serving on several committees, while helping to develop the recently established LEAP (Low Energy Athlete Prevention) program.
