    Recent Middlebury College graduate Margo Cramer '12 has been chosen as one of the top 30 nominees for the 2012 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Cramer was a two-sport standout for the Panthers, starring in both cross country and track and field.

    Middlebury senior Margo Cramer (Seattle, Wash.) has received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, it was announced on Friday, March 9. Cramer is one of 58 fall student-athletes to earn the distinction and the sole individual from the NESCAC to receive the honor.
  • Cross Country Athletes Earn Academic Honors

    Nine members of the Middlebury College cross country teams earned All-Academic status when the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the honors. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester and placed in the top 35 at the NCAA Regional Championships.

    The Panther cross country teams took part in the 2011 NCAA Championship races hosted by Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The Middlebury women earned their fourth runner-up finish in the 32-team race, while the men’s squad finished 13th. Washington University won the women’s race with 70 points, followed by Middlebury (111) and Williams (153). North Central captured the men’s title with 110 points, while the Panthers came in with 372 points.

    Twelve members of the Middlebury College cross country teams have earned All-Regional honors from the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association). Along with the dozen students, Middlebury first-year coach Nicole Wilkerson was named both the men’s and women’s New England Region Coach of the Year.

    The Middlebury College men’s and women's cross country teams will take part in the 2011 NCAA Championship races hosted by Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The 32-team races will take place at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin with the women’s event at noon and the men’s race at 1:00 p.m. eastern.

    The Middlebury cross country teams have both qualified for the NCAA Championships after stellar performances at the NCAA Regionals hosted by Bowdoin. The #3 Panther women won the 53-team regional, topping NESCAC Champion and top-ranked Williams by five points. It is the fourth straight New England women's team title for the Panthers, who shared the top spot with MIT in 2009.

    The NESCAC has released its 2011 All-Conference cross country selections, based on individual’s finishes at the recent NESCAC Championship races. Middlebury senior Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) was named the men’s most outstanding performer after capturing the NESCAC crown a week ago.

    The Middlebury cross country teams took part in the 2011 NESCAC Championships hosted by Amherst on Saturday. Neither team was able to repeat as NESCAC Champion, but both performed well, with the women placing second and the men fourth. On the men's side, Michael Schmidt became the second Panther in meet history to win the conference championship, joining Mike Graham, who also won at Amherst in 1983.

The annual meet, one of the longest-running events in conference history, gets underway Saturday morning with the women's 6-kilometer race at 11:00 a.m. followed by the men's 8-kilometer race at 12:00 p.m.

The men were the top finishing D3 team, placing fourth among 39 squads, topping several D1 schools. The women finished sixth overall, second only to Williams among D3 teams in a 39-squad race.

The senior placed first at the Aldrich Invitational over the weekend, named in honor of former Panther head coach Terry Aldrich, who retired last fall. Cramer traversed the 5-kilometer course in a time of 18:46.7.

    Middlebury College cross country runner Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) has been named the first NESCAC Cross Country male athlete of the week for 2011. Schmidt placed 12th out of 53 runners at the Dartmouth Invitational this past Saturday, covering the 7.25 kilometer course in a time of 22:49, 49 seconds off the winning time.

    The Middlebury College cross country teams opened up their 2011 season at the Dartmouth Invitational. The Panthers were the only Division III team competing at the meet, with the men placing third out of four teams, while the women were fifth among five squads. The meet was the first as head coach for Nicole Wilkerson, who took over the head coaching duties after long-time coach Terry Aldrich retired.
