The Middlebury cross country teams hosted the Panther Invitational races on campus Saturday afternoon. The women won their race with 19 points, followed by St. Michael's (49) and Norwich (74). The men were victorious with 15 points, followed by St. Michael's (73), Norwich (78), Paul Smith's (89) and Morrisville State (149).
Senior Alexandra Krieg (Wellesley, Mass.) captured the women's race with a time of 18:29 as Middlebury placed runners in third-eighth place. First-year racer Elise Moody-Roberts (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) finished in third place with a time of 18:59, followed by rookie Claire McIlvennie (Ithaca, N.Y.) in fourth place (19:21). Sophomore Hannah Meier (Charlotte, Vt.) was next for Middlebury in fifth place (19:41), followed by rookie Cate Brown (Hanover, N.H.) in sixth (19:44) to round out the Panther scorers.
First-year racer Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) led the men's team, winning the event with a time of 27:06. Sophomore Jack Terrett (Sherborn, Mass.) placed second for the men in 27:09, followed by senior Jack Wambach (Evanston, Ill.) with a third place finish in 27:26. Senior Rainey Johnson (St. Louis, Mo.) came in fourth (27:46), while junior Peter Hoffman (Rochester, Minn.) placed fifth (27:47) to complete the Middlebury scorers.
