The Middlebury cross country teams were in action once again on Saturday as they took part in the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams. The Panther men placed fourth of 11 teams, while the women were fourth in a four-team event.
Senior Jimmy Butcher (Garden City, N.Y.) led the Middlebury men with a ninth place finish in the 132-man race, finishing with a time of 26:12. Sophomore Mike Waters (Bedford, Mass.) was next for Middlebury in 24th place with a time of 27:11, followed by first-year racer Stanis Moody-Roberts (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) in 32nd (27:34). Placing 35th for the men was junior Jack Wambach (Evanston, Ill.) in 27:42, followed by junior Rainey Johnson (St. Louis, Mo.) in 37th place (27:50).
Junior Alexandra Krieg (Wellesley, Mass.) paced the Panther women, finishing the race in third place with a time of 22:14. First-year racer Hannah Meier (Charlotte, Vt.) was next for Middlebury placing 14th in 23:27, followed by rookie Jessica Spar (Short Hills, N.J.) in 18th (23:40). Rounding out the top five were first-year racer Amanda Lee (Lincoln, Neb.) in 29th (24:05) and classmate Kaitlynn Saldanha (Scarborough, Maine) in 30th (24:06).
