Five Middlebury men's track & field athletes recently earned All-American honors by virtue of their finishes at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston. Seniors Jimmy Martinez (Maplewood, N.J.), Jonathan Perlman (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) and Minhaj Rahman (Woodhaven, N.Y.), along with juniors Nathan Hill (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Arden Coleman (Burlingame, Calif.) were each a part of a top-eight finish in the meet held in the Reggis Lewis Center.
The Panther team of Hill, Coleman, Martinez and Perlman stopped the clock with a NCAA-winning time of 9:56.54, claiming the national title by 2.21 seconds over runner-up North Central (Ill.). The All-American effort in the event is the third-straight year a Panther men's team has tallied a top-eight finish with third-place showings in 2017 and 2018, as well as a fourth-place run in 2012. The quartet earned the first indoor national event championship in men's program history and the third for the Panthers, joining the 2011 and 2012 women's DMR teams.
Rahman, who had an impressive winter season by winning the weight throw eight times, posted an eighth-place toss of 62'7.25" during his final throw of the evening. Rahman entered the meet with a school-record mark of 63'6", a distance that he rewrote four times this winter.
