Matches were contested outdoors at the Proctor Tennis Courts and indoors at the Nelson Recreation Center on the Middlebury campus. The team returns to action September 27-29 when it competes at the ITA Regional Championships hosted by Colby.
In the 'A' singles flight, Middlebury's Stanley Morris advanced to Sunday's final. On Saturday, Morris defeated Bates' Leo Kupferman and Skidmore's JT Wynne in straight sets. In Sunday's play, Morris won against second-seeded David Aizenberg from Brandeis, before falling to Issac Gorelik of Tufts in three sets during the final.
During 'B' singles action, Robby Ward played his way into Sunday's championship. The fourth-seeded Panther battled back to earn a three-set win over Tufts' Jack Moldenhauer in his initial match of the tournament, before defeating Brandeis' Simon Kaupilla in the quarterfinals in straight sets. In Sunday's semifinals, Ward knocked off top-seeded Jeff Chen from Brandeis and lost to Rishabh Sharda of Tufts during the final in three sets.
The 'C' flight saw David Vilys tally a straight-set victory against Bates' Aaron Ramos, followed by a three-set win over Skidmore's Tristan Thiebaut. In Sunday's semifinal, the fourth-seeded Panther edged Tufts' Ethan Bershstein in three sets before losing in the final.
In the 'D' flight, Zach Hilty cruised in his first match over Bates' Alex Kennedy, followed by a straight-set triumph against RPI's Phoenix Tamaoki in the quarterfinals. Hilty breezed past top-seeded Niko Hereford of Tufts, but fell in the championship match in straight sets.
The 'B' doubles flight saw the Middlebury team of Weston Brach and Hilty win their opening-round match, while the team of Vilys and Ward also collected a victory.
