Men's Tennis Competes at Princeton's Farnsworth Invitational

Members of the Middlebury men's tennis team competed in the Farnsworth Invitational hosted by Princeton at the Lenz Tennis Center. The Panthers were the lone Division III team in a tournament of 15 schools. The invitational consisted of coaches entering players in pairs of two for a Davis Cup format, as each pair formed a team that played doubles first, followed by two singles matches.

Competing for the Panthers were Noah Farrell, Peter Martin, Adam Guo, Andre Xiao, Aleksandr Samets and David Vilys.

In doubles action, the team of Farrell and Martin tallied a 3-1 record during the weekend's matches. The Panther duo defeated the Army West Point team of Myles Conlin and Nikita Larichev 8-4, followed by a similar result against the Lehigh team of Harry Wang and George Cooper. Farrell and Martin concluded the weekend by blanking Tomi Antoljak and George Stevenson from NJIT, 6-0.

The teams of Xiao and Samets along with Guo and Vilys both were victorious twice in doubles. Xiao and Samets defeated Bryant Born and Jacob Edelchik of Lehigh (8-7 (4)), followed by a win over Hofstra's Ryan Hardin and Shawn Jackson (6-2). Guo and Vilys edged Army West Point's Grant Patterson and Will Ockerman (8-7 (5)), along with Marist's Jack Sequerth and Kian Yazdi (8-6).

During singles play, Farrell and Guo each tallied three wins in their four matches. Farrell cruised by NJIT's Abdallah Fouad (6-2, 6-0) and Wang from Lehigh (7-6 (1), 6-1), as well as Antoljak (6-2, 6-2). Guo breezed past Patterson (6-2, 6-0) and edged Sequerth (6-4, 7-5), ending his weekend with a walkover victory against Chris Gladden from Marist.

Vilys and Martin also earned two victories as individuals. Vilys defeated Ockerman in straight sets (7-5, 6-1), before besting Kian Yazdi of Marist (6-3, 7-5), while Martin knocked off Cooper (6-0, 6-1) and Svensson (6-4, 6-3). 

The Panthers conclude the fall portion of their schedule when they take part in the Tufts/Brandeis Invitational from Friday, October 12 through Sunday, October 14.
