  • Cuba Selected CoSIDA Academic First-Team All-American
    June 19, 2019
    Middlebury College men's tennis player Lubomir Cuba (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) has been named to the Google Cloud College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American At-Large First Team. Cuba is 15th student-athlete in Middlebury's history to achieve the accolade, the fourth this year and the 11th since 2014. Cuba led the Panthers to a 19-7 record in 2019, the NESCAC Championship and the program's 13th NCAA Semifinal appearance in 17 years.
  • Cuba, Farrell Earn ITA Division III All-American Accolades

    The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently released its list of Division III All-Americans and a pair of Middlebury men were recognized by the organization. Included were Middlebury seniors Lubomir Cuba (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and Noah Farrell (Wilton, Conn.), as each player earned the laurel in singles.

    Lubomir Cuba ’19, who just finished his senior year as a member of the men’s tennis team, found a love for art and drawing at an early age. In his junior year, the economics graduate from Massapequa Park, New York, was a member of the team that claimed the NCAA Championship in men’s tennis.
  • NESCAC Spring All-Academic Team Members Recognized

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) has announced its 2019 Spring All-Academic Selections. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50. A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution. The following are Middlebury's 132 representatives, the second-highest total in the conference.
  • NESCAC Spring All-Sportsmanship Team Announced

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) announced its Spring All-Sportsmanship Team for each spring sport sponsored by the conference. The All-Sportsmanship Team is composed of one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship. The student-athlete selected must be in good academic standing and a member of the team at the conclusion of the season in order to be eligible for selection. 
  • Men's Tennis Closes Season In NCAA Semifinals

    The Middlebury men's tennis team saw its season come to an end in the NCAA Semifinals, as it was edged by third-ranked Emory (21-2), 5-3. The sixth-ranked Panthers end their season with a 19-7 mark after making their 13th final four appearance. The match took place at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
  • Men's Tennis Secures NCAA Semifinal Slot

    Middlebury advanced to the NCAA semifinals for the 13th time in 17 years after a 5-2 win over fifth-ranked Wesleyan (16-5) in a quarterfinal contest. The sixth-ranked Panthers (17-6) will face #3 Emory in the semifinals on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to the NCAA Championship match. Action took place at the Stowe Family Tennis Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
  • Cuba Named CoSIDA Academic All-District Selection

    Middlebury College men’s tennis player Lubomir Cuba (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) has been named a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District I First-Team Academic All-District selection by the organization. Cuba has helped guide the Panthers to an 18-6 record in 2019 and the program’s 16th NCAA Quarterfinal appearance in 17 seasons next week in Michigan.
  • Men’s Tennis Returns to the NCAA Quarterfinals

    The Middlebury College men's tennis team will make its 16th NCAA Quarterfinal appearance in the last 17 years when it meets Wesleyan on Monday, May 20. Matches will take place at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The event is hosted by Kalamazoo College. The Panthers are making their 18th-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.
  • Panther Men Secure Spot in NCAA Quarterfinals

    Middlebury advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals with a 5-0 victory over MIT on Saturday in a match played outdoors on the Proctor Tennis Courts. The sixth-ranked Panthers (18-6) will play in an NCAA Quarterfinal match against fifth-ranked Wesleyan on Monday, May 20 at the Stowe Stadium Complex in Kalamazoo, Michigan, while MIT finishes its season at 14-6. Middlebury advances to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the 16th time in the last 17 years.
  • Three Panther Men’s Tennis Players Earn All-NESCAC Accolades

    Three members of the Middlebury College men's tennis team were honored when the NESCAC announced its all-conference teams. Senior Lubomir Cuba (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) earned first-team all-conference honors for his singles play, while Cuba and doubles partner Peter Martin (Orinda, Calif.) were awarded second-team laurels. Senior Noah Farrell (Wilton, Conn.) garnered second-team accolades in singles. The sixth-ranked Panthers are preparing to host an NCAA Regional this weekend on the Proctor Tennis Courts.
  • Middlebury Defeats Goucher in NCAA Second-Round Match

    Middlebury advanced to the NCAA Men's Tennis Regional Final with a 5-0 victory Friday over Goucher in a match played in the Nelson Recreation Center at Middlebury College. The sixth-ranked Panthers (17-6) will play MIT in the final on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., while the Gophers finish their season at 17-6.

    The Middlebury College men's tennis team will make its 18th-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament when it hosts a regional from May 9-11. The Panthers will take on the winner of Thursday’s opening round match between Goucher and Baruch on Friday, while MIT battles the victor of Thursday’s second contest between Stevenson and Clarks Summit. Friday’s winners will take part in the regional final on Saturday.
  • Middlebury Wins NESCAC Championship; Ninth in Program History

    The Middlebury men’s tennis won its third NESCAC Men’s Tennis Championship in the last five years and ninth overall by a 5-1 score Sunday over top-seeded Amherst. The contest took place at the Proctor Tennis Courts. The Panthers (16-6) will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament when the selections are announced on Monday, while the Mammoths (16-4) will likely earn an at-large berth.
  • Panthers Defeat Wesleyan, Move Into NESCAC Championship

    Third-seeded Middlebury advanced to the NESCAC Championship match for the fifth-consecutive year via a 5-3 win Saturday over second-seeded Wesleyan (14-4) in a match played at the Proctor Tennis Courts. The Panthers (15-6) will take on top-seeded Amherst, a 5-2 victor over fourth-seeded Bowdoin, at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning for the crown.
  • Panther Men Advance to NESCAC Semifinals

    Third-seeded Middlebury advanced to the NESCAC Semifinals with a 5-3 win Friday over sixth-seeded Tufts (8-9). The three-day tournament is being hosted by the Panthers and the match was played in the Nelson Recreation Center. Middlebury (14-6) will take on second-seeded Wesleyan at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

    Middlebury has earned the No. 3 seed and looks for its ninth NESCAC Championship when it serves as the host for this weekend’s NESCAC Men’s Tennis Tournament. Amherst is the top seed and looks to win its first title since 2014 when first-round action begins on Friday, May 3 at Middlebury’s Proctor Tennis Courts. The semifinals are set for Saturday, May 4, while the championship match is scheduled for Sunday, May 5. The Panthers are hosting the NESCAC Tennis Championships for the first time since 2015 and fourth time overall.  
  • Panther Men End Regular Season With Setback at No. 4 Amherst

    The Middlebury men's tennis team concluded the regular-season portion of its schedule with a 6-3 road loss Saturday at No. 4 Amherst (15-3, 7-1) at the Ludlow Tennis Center. The sixth-ranked Panthers (18-3, 7-1) return to the courts next weekend when they host the NESCAC Championships on the Proctor Tennis Courts.

    In a showdown of perennial top-10 teams Saturday, the eighth-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team posted a 5-4 victory at fourth-ranked Bowdoin (12-3, 4-2) in a rematch of last spring’s NCAA Championship contest. Middlebury (12-5, 5-1) returns to action next Saturday when it wraps up the regular season with a 12:00 p.m. match at No. 7 Amherst.

    The eighth-ranked Panther men's tennis team fell behind after doubles play for the second-straight day, but responded by winning four of the six singles matches en route to a 5-4 come-from-behind victory Sunday over No. 10 Williams (7-5, 4-1). Middlebury (11-5, 4-1) returns to action Friday when travels to Bates for a 4:00 p.m. match.
  • Singles Sweep Lifts No. 8 Panther Men Past No. 18 Tufts

    The eighth-ranked Panther men's tennis team fell behind 3-0 after doubles play, but the Panthers responded by sweeping the six singles matches on their way to a 6-3 home victory over No. 18 Tufts (5-7, 1-4) on Saturday. The match was played on the Proctor Tennis Courts. Middlebury (10-5, 3-1) returns to action Sunday when it hosts No. 10 Williams at 12:00 p.m.
  • No. 2 Panther Men Split Sunday Matches

    The second-ranked Panther men's tennis team split a pair of matches at home on Sunday, picking up a 7-2 NESCAC triumph over Connecticut College, before falling 6-3 to third-ranked Emory. The matches took place on the Proctor Tennis Courts. The Panthers (9-5, 2-1) return to action on Saturday when they entertain 17th-ranked Tufts beginning at 12:00 p.m.
  • Middlebury Men Fall to No. 7 Wesleyan

    In a matchup of top-10 nationally-ranked teams, the second-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team fell by a 6-3 score in NESCAC action to visiting No. 7 Wesleyan (10-2, 3-1). The match took place outdoors on the Proctor Tennis Courts. Middlebury (8-4, 1-1) returns to action tomorrow with an 11:00 a.m. home league match against Connecticut College, followed by a 2:30 p.m. contest with third-ranked Emory.
  • Panthers Fall to No. 4 CMS to End Spring Trip

    Second-ranked Middlebury completed its spring trip to Southern California on Saturday, falling to No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (17-1) by a 7-2 score. The match was played at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. Middlebury returns to action next Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. NESCAC home tilt with No. 7 Wesleyan.

    Middlebury claimed five of the six points during singles action en route to an 8-1 victory on Thursday evening at No. 13 Pomona-Pitzer. The second-ranked Panthers improve to 8-2 and wrap up their spring trip on Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. match at No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

    The Middlebury men's tennis team continued its spring break trip in California on Tuesday, falling by a narrow 4-3 score to Division II Azusa Pacific at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex. The second-ranked Panthers (7-2) have a day off before returning to action on Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. eastern match at 14th-ranked Pomona-Pitzer.
  • Panther Men Fall to Division I UC Irvine
    March 25, 2019
    The Middlebury men's tennis team saw its 12-match unbeaten streak dating back to last spring come to an end on Monday, falling 6-1 to Division I UC Irvine at the Anteater Tennis Stadium. The second-ranked Panthers (7-1) return to the courts on Tuesday with a 5:30 p.m. match at Division II Azusa Pacific.
  • Middlebury Men Pick Up Two Wins in California
    March 24, 2019
    The second-ranked Panther men's tennis team continued its spring trip through California, picking up a pair of wins on Sunday. Middlebury started the day with an 8-1 win at Occidental, followed by a 7-2 victory against George Fox in a match played at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Middlebury stays unbeaten at 7-0 and returns to the courts on Monday at Division I UC Irvine starting at 3:00 p.m. eastern.
