The 19th-ranked Middlebury men's squash team opened its 2019-20 season with an 8-1 victory on Saturday at Hamilton in the Little Squash Center. The Panthers (1-0) return to action on Sunday, January 5 when they travel to Williams for a 4:00 p.m. match.
In the win over the Continentals, the visitors recorded three-game victories during seven of the eight triumphs. Nick Bermingham started things with a win at No. 2 (11-3, 11-4, 11-8) over Callum Sondhi, while William Cembalest posted an 8-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-6 victory against Tate Suratt atop the ladder. Jacob Ellen surrendered just five points to Rufus Somerby at No. 3 (11-2, 11-2, 11-1), while PK Keller made it a 4-0 score with his first collegiate victory (12-10, 11-6, 11-9) over Tristan Chaix in the sixth slot.
The final two victories for the Panthers were recorded in three games by Alex Merrill (12-10, 11-6, 11-9) against Oliver Constable at No. 8, while Thomas Wolpow tallied an 11-4, 11-7, 11-9 triumph over Tripp Peters in the seventh slot. The Continentals recorded a three-game victory at No. 9 for the final 8-1 score.
