Middlebury men's squash rookie Justin Ghaeli won the consolation draw of the Molloy Cup North bracket during the College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championships. The three-day event was held at the Moses Brown's School's Nicol Squash Club in Providence, Rhode Island.
Competing against Rochester's Rodrigo Porras in the main draw's round of 16, Ghaeli fell in three games Friday afternoon by scores of 11-5, 11-4, 11-6. Later that day in the consolation bracket, he rebounded for a three-game triumph over Davis Chase of Haverford in the quarterfinals (11-2, 11-9, 12-10). The next day, Ghaeli defeated MIT's Henry Martin by tallies of 11-6, 11-6, 5-11, 11-8 to advance to the final.
During Sunday's final, Ghaeli bested Drexel's Luke Willemese in four games to win the title (11-6, 10-12, 11-8, 11-9). The 2019 NESCAC Rookie of the Year and first-team all-conference selection completes his first season with a record of 15-10, including a 3-1 record this weekend.
