The 18th-ranked Middlebury men's squash team blanked No. 23 Bowdoin (6-9) by a 9-0 tally on Friday morning in the Summers Cup quarterfinal round at the CSA Team Championships. Six of the nine matches were decided in three games. The national event is being hosted by Yale at the Brady Squash Center. The Panthers return to action Saturday at 8:30 a.m. in a semifinal match against No. 19 Brown.
Alex Merrill started things off for Middlebury (14-5) with a win at No. 9 (11-9, 11-5, 11-5) over Ishaan George, while Teddy Best doubled the Middlebury lead via a win in the sixth spot (11-8, 11-4, 9-11, 11-5) against Tyler Shonrock. William Cembalest edged Gannon Leech in four games at No. 3 (11-8, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9), while Jacob Ellen made it a 4-0 score with an 11-7, 11-8, 11-5 win over Satya Butler in the second slot.
Nick Bermingham clinched the match with an 11-6, 14-12, 11-6 triumph against Adham Sobhy in the middle of the ladder. Wiatt Hinton posted an 11-5, 11-4, 10-12, 11-9 win at No. 8 over Drew Clark, while John Epley was victorious in the seventh spot against John Milligan (11-7, 11-8, 11-2).
Jack Kagan defeated Carson Claar in the fourth slot of the lineup (13-11, 11-6, 11-5), while Justin Ghaeli recorded an 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 win at in the top slot against Ian Squiers to complete the sweep.
