The 17th-ranked Middlebury men's squash team posted a 6-3 victory over #20 Brown on Saturday morning in the Summers Cup semifinals at the CSA Men's Squash National Team Championship. The event is being hosted by Harvard at the Murr Center Squash Courts. The Panthers (12-8) return to action Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. in the championship match against #19 Virginia, a 5-4 victor over Williams. Middlebury squared off with the Cavaliers earlier this season on January 28 in a match played at Brown, dropping a narrow 5-4 decision.
The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead with victories from Nick Bermingham at #9 (11-7, 11-9, 11-4), Ben Krant in the sixth spot (11-9, 7-11, 11-7, 11-6) and Andrew Cadienhead at #3 with a five-game triumph (7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 5-11, 11-6).
Brown cut the deficit to one at 3-2 with victories in the #8 and #2 spots, respectively. Jack Kagan pushed the Middlebury advantage back to a pair, fighting back from a 2-1 hole for a five-game win in the fifth spot (11-6, 9-11, 4-11, 11-5, 11-2).
After a win atop the ladder for the Bears, Middlebury's Robert Rohrbach clinched the fifth team point with a four-game victory at #7 (11-9, 11-13, 11-5, 12-10). William Cembalest completed the scoring, sweeping his opponent in three games (17-15, 11-6, 11-8), giving the Panthers a 6-3 victory.
