Middlebury College men's soccer players Ben Potter (Chicago, Ill.) and Jack Spiridellis (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) have been named College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District II First-Team Academic All-District selections by the organization. The pair will help lead sixth-seeded Middlebury into the semifinals of the NESCAC Tournament on Saturday, when it faces top-seeded Amherst with an 11:00 a.m. start.
Potter earns his second-straight all-district nod and owns a 3.92 grade point average as an economics major. He was selected as a 2018 Google Cloud CoSIDA Third-Team Academic All-American. The senior forward has scored two goals along with an assist this fall for five points. Both of Potter's goal this season have been game-winning tallies, including a score in the season opener at Norwich and a September 21 NESCAC home triumph against Hamilton.
Spiridellis boasts a 3.94 grade point average and is an international politics and economics double major. The junior is part of a defensive unit that leads the NESCAC and ranks fourth in Division III with a 0.51 goals against average, while the Panthers are second in the conference with eight shutouts.
The pair will now be placed on a national ballot with the Academic All-American team slated to be released on December 3.
