The Middlebury College men's soccer team will makes its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance and second in a row when it travels to Amherst for an NCAA Regional on November 10-11. The Panthers will face St. Joseph's (Maine) in one match-up, while the host school will entertain Bridgewater State. The winners will meet in a second-round contest on Sunday.
Head coach Alex Elias '08 is in his first season at the helm of the men's soccer program. Captain of the 2007 National Championship team, he has led the Panthers to the NCAA Tournament with a 10-3-3 mark in 2018.
Middlebury, which earned an at-large bid, enters the tournament with an overall record of 11-6-5 in NCAA Tournament play, going 3-2 in games decided by penalty kicks. The Panthers picked up tournament wins in 1996 and 2000, before going 4-0-1 en route to the 2007 NCAA Championship. Middlebury advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2010.
Middlebury last played on October 27, falling 1-0 to Williams in a NESCAC Quarterfinal game. The Panthers were unbeaten in the 10 games prior to that post-season loss. Middlebury has recorded nine shutouts this season, including five in October.
Senior Daniel O'Grady is a two-time All-NESCAC selection who owns four goals and four assists for 12 points. He scored in three-straight games during a stretch in October, earning eight points in the period. O'Grady was named the NESCAC Player of the Week on October 15 after scoring three and assisting on two others in a 3-0 week for the Panthers.
Junior Ben Potter leads the team in goals (6) and points (14) to go along with a pair of assists. His goal totals tie him for third in the league, while his points are tied for fourth among his NESCAC peers. He has scored goals in three of the last four games, all of them game-winners.
Junior Aidan Robinson earned Second-Team All-NESCAC honors for the Panthers as a back. He has started every game for the past two seasons for Middlebury as a back. He and sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Hyer have helped anchor a Panther defense that is second in the league with a 0.47 goals against average, boasting nine shutouts.
