Middlebury will host Wesleyan in a NESCAC Quarterfinal contest on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Williams is the tournament's No. 1 seed for the first time since 2016. The Ephs grabbed the top seed with a 5-2 victory over Amherst on the final day of the regular season. The NESCAC Quarterfinals will be played on Saturday, February 29 on the campus of the higher seeds. The semifinals and final will be held on the campus of the highest remaining seed and are set for March 7-8.
Top-seeded Williams (16-7-1, 13-5-0 NESCAC), which has played in every NESCAC Championship, will host a quarterfinal game for the first time since 2017 when it faces No. 8 Connecticut College (11-11-2, 7-9-2 NESCAC). The Camels are in the tournament field for the second time in three years and this marks their seventh overall appearance. Williams improved to 2-0 against Connecticut College in the NESCAC Championship series with a 4-2 win in the 2018 quarterfinals. This season, the Ephs posted a pair of 3-1 wins over the Camels on November 22 and January 31.
Trinity (17-6-1, 12-5-1 NESCAC) is the No. 2 seed and will host No. 7 Amherst (9-11-4, 7-8-3 NESCAC) in the second quarterfinal matchup, which is a rematch of the 2019 NESCAC Championship game won by the Bantams, 3-2 in overtime. Wesleyan, Bowdoin, and Amherst each finished the regular season with a .472 winning percentage. In head-to-head competition, Wesleyan went 2-1-1 to earn the No. 5 seed, Bowdoin was 2-2-0 to earn the No. 6 seed, and Amherst had a record of 1-2-1 to earn the No. 7 seed.
Trinity, which has qualified for the NESCAC Tournament for the 20th consecutive season, is the No. 2 seed for the first time since 2016 and will host a quarterfinal game for the eighth straight year. The Mammoths are the No. 7 seed for the first time since 2004 and have qualified for every NESCAC Championship. Trinity defeated Amherst, 2-1, at Amherst in the second game of the season on November 22. The Mammoths avenged the loss with a 2-1 victory at Trinity on January 31. The Bantams own a 4-1 advantage in the NESCAC Championship series.
Hamilton (11-9-4, 10-6-2 NESCAC) is making its sixth straight appearance in the NESCAC Championship and will host a quarterfinal for the fifth consecutive year. The Continentals are the No. 3 seed for the first time since 2002 and will face No. 6 Bowdoin (12-11-1, 8-9-1 NESCAC). The Polar Bears are making their first appearance since 2017 and are the No. 6 seed for the first time since 2009. The two teams are meeting for the seventh time in the NESCAC Tournament. Hamilton earned its fourth win in the series (4-2) with a 4-2 victory in the 2017 quarterfinals. The two teams split the regular-season series, with Bowdoin winning, 2-1, at home on January 10 and the Continentals recording a 4-2 victory on February 7.
The last quarterfinal pairing features two teams meeting up for the second year in a row in the quarterfinal round as No. 5 Wesleyan (12-11-1, 8-9-1 NESCAC) travels to No. 4 Middlebury (10-11-3, 8-7-3 NESCAC). Last year, the Panthers faced the Cardinals in Middletown, Conn. with Wesleyan coming away with a 4-1 victory. Middlebury is in the tournament field for the second straight year and is making its 19th appearance overall. Wesleyan has qualified for the NESCAC Championship for the fourth straight year. Middlebury is 2-1 against Wesleyan in the NESCAC Championship series. The teams split the regular-season series, with Wesleyan posting a 3-1 win at Middlebury on January 11 and the Panthers earning a 4-1 win at Wesleyan on February 8.
