Middlebury outshot Colby 41-13 on its way to a 7-1 win over the Mules (0-1-1, 0-1-1) in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers improve to 1-0-1 on the season and will return to action next weekend at Tufts and Connecticut College. Twelve different players registered a goal or an assist for Middlebury.
Middlebury took a 1-0 lead 2:46 into the first period with a goal from Derek Pimentel. Ben Wiggins' shot from the point was tipped by Jake Charles to Pimentel, who finished.
Pimentel netted his second of the period at the 8:37 mark, giving the Panthers a 2-0 lead. A shot from the left point by Max Greenwald was saved before Pimentel gathered the rebound and moved to his right before scoring with a quick shot to the left post.
Colby cut the lead in half with its first shot of the game 14:01 into the first period. Nick Lanza was behind the goal and sent a quick pass to Ray Zeek in the slot for the quick move and score.
The Panthers made it a 3-1 game 6:12 into the second period with a power play goal. Ronald Fishman fed Evan Neugold for a quick one-timer near the face-off circle. Charles gave the Panthers a 4-1 advantage at the 8:41 mark, scoring from the low slot after a feed from Pimentel. The lead grew to 5-1 late in the period with another power play tally. Ben Wiggins sent a puck into the slot area, where it bounced around before Louis Belisle finished.
Charles and Mike Longo added third period goals to secure the win. Mike Peters made 12 saves in goal to earn the win, while Sam Parker (40 mins., 5 GA, 22 saves) and Ben Csiernik (20 min., 2 GA, 12 saves) both saw action in goal for Colby.
