    Each year community volunteers make a big impact at local non-profits during the Addison County United Way Days of Caring. On Saturday, September 22nd, over 60 athletes from four Middlebury College athletic teams took time from their busy schedules to volunteer during the 18th annual Days of Caring around Addison County painting, cleaning, and providing maintenance support at local non-profits.

    Middlebury’s hope for a ninth NESCAC title came to an end as Amherst  won its second title. The Jeffs overcame a 2-0 deficit by scoring four consecutive goals and getting clutch saves from Jonathan La Rose en route to a 4-3 win in at Orr Rink.

    The third-seeded Middlebury men’s hockey team erupted for four goals in the second period en route to a 6-3 victory over second-seeded Bowdoin College in the NESCAC Championship semifinals at Orr Rink. Rebounding from a slow 7-8-3 start, Middlebury has gone 7-1-0 over its last eight to advance to its 12th NESCAC final. Bowdoin, which entered the game on a five-game win streak, dropped to 16-6-3 on the year with the loss.

    The Middlebury men's hockey team will visit Amherst for 2012 NESCAC Championship. The Panthers will take on Bowdoin, Saturday, March 3rd at 1:00 p.m., followed by Amherst vs. Williams at 4:00 p.m. The winners meet in the title game on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

    Chris Steele scored with 3:03 remaining in the third period, lifting Middlebury to a 2-1 win over Wesleyan in a NESCAC Quarterfinal game in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers (13-9-3) advance to the NESCAC semifinals next Saturday at either Bowdoin or Amherst, while the Cardinals finish their year at 12-11-2.

    Amherst scored two third period goals to pick up a 2-1 road win at Middlebury in the regular season finale for both teams. The Panthers (12-9-3, 11-6-1) are the third seed for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament, and will host Wesleyan in a quarterfinal game next Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Third-ranked Amherst (20-3-1, 17-1) enters the tourney as the top seed and will host #8 Hamilton on Saturday.

    Middlebury improved its unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1) with a 2-1 win over Hamilton in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers (12-8-3, 11-5-1) wrap up their regular season tomorrow when they host Amherst at 4:00 p.m., while Hamilton (8-12-3, 4-11-2) visits Williams. Middlebury has already wrapped up the #3 for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament, and will host Wesleyan in a quarterfinal game next Saturday at 4:00 p.m.

    Middlebury topped Williams for the second time in three days as the Panthers (11-8-3, 10-5-1) picked up a 3-2 victory over the Ephs (10-7-5, 7-7-2) in Kenyon Arena. Middlebury remains unbeaten in its last five (4-0-1) games, all of them in NESCAC play, while Williams is winless (0-5-1) in its last six.

    Middlebury won its third straight NESCAC game as the Panthers picked up a 5-1 win at Williams (10-6-5) on Thursday night. Middlebury (10-8-3) controlled the game, holding a 48-23 shots advantage in the contest. The Panthers and Ephs will meet again on Saturday night in Middlebury at 7:00 p.m.

    Rookie goalie Dan Fullam needed just 19 saves to record his first career shutout and lead the visiting Middlebury College Panthers to a 3-0 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in NESCAC hockey action at Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center.

    Middlebury scored twice in a span of 2:17 in the second period and added a short-handed goal early in the third for a 3-2 victory over Wesleyan in men's ice hockey action Saturday evening. Middlebury, which ended a four-game winless streak, evened its record at 8-8-3 and improved to 7-5-1 in NESCAC play.

    The Bowdoin College men's ice hockey team beat Middlebury for the first time since 2007 in a 5-0 blanking of the Panthers on Saturday afternoon at Watson Arena.  The surging Polar Bears improve to 10-4-2 (8-2-2 NESCAC) and are 5-0-1 in their last six games and 7-0-1 in their last eight NESCAC contests. The Panthers fall to 7-6-2, 6-4-0 in NESCAC play.

    John Yanchek earned his 40th career victory with 19 saves as Middlebury fought back from an early 1-0 deficit on the way to a 3-1 win over Colby in NESCAC play Friday night at Alfond Rink. Middlebury moves to 7-5-2 overall and 6-3 in NESCAC play, while the Mules fall to 3-12 overall and 1-10 in the league.

    Third-ranked Plattsburgh (11-2-3) had little trouble with Middlebury (6-5-2) handing the Panthers a 7-0 loss in Kenyon Arena. The loss was the worst for Middlebury since falling 9-1 to Norwich in ’93. The Panthers return to action next weekend with NESCAC games at Colby and Bowdoin.

James Albrecht scored the game-winner 3:38 into the extra session, breaking in all alone with a nice forehand-to-backhand move.

    Middlebury and Southern Maine (5-3-2) battled to a 2-2 tie on day two of the 19th annual Middlebury College Holiday Classic. By virtue of a points system used for the tournament, the #15 Panthers (5-3-2) were deemed the tournament champions. Potsdam netminder Kevin McFarland earned tournament m.v.p. honors with 93 saves over two games.

The 15th-ranked Panthers (5-3-1) return to action tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. when they host S. Maine, while the Thoroughbreds (4-7) will battle Potsdam at 1:00 p.m.

    Joe Quattrocchi stopped all 31 shots he faced to lead Hamilton College to a 3-0 upset over nationally ranked No. 8 Middlebury College in a NESCAC game at Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Dec. 9. It was the first career shutout for Quattrocchi.
