    Middlebury College men’s hockey player Charlie Strauss (Eagle River, Wis.) has earned first-team All-NESCAC honors. The junior led the team with 11 goals, 23 points and four power play goals this season. He finished the season tied for the team-lead with a dozen assists.

    Middlebury’s streak of 11 straight trips to the NESCAC Championship game has come to an end, after Colby topped the Panthers 2-1 in a quarterfinal game in Kenyon Arena. Third-seeded Middlebury ends its season with an 11-8-6 record, while sixth-seeded Colby improves to 12-10-2.
  • Hockey Teams To Host NESCAC Quarterfinal Games

    The Middlebury men's and women's hockey teams will both host NESCAC Quarterfinal games on Saturday, February 26th. The men will take on Colby at 1:00 p.m., followed by the women vs. Williams at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are priced at $7 for adults, $3 for students/seniors and are on sale Tuesday, Feb. 22nd.

    Middlebury dropped its final game of the regular season, falling 3-2 to Castleton in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers (11-7-6) earn the third seed for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament and will host #6 Colby in the quarterfinals next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Castleton improves to 21-3-1 overall, earning the second seed for the ECAC East Tourney.
  • Men's Hockey Settles For 3-3 Tie With Skidmore - Secures Home Game

    Middlebury and Skidmore battled to a 3-3 tie in Kenyon Arena, in the final weekend of the regular season for both teams. The Panthers earned a school-record sixth tie, seeing their overall mark move to 11-6-6, while Skidmore moves to 9-12-2. Middlebury is now 7-1-3 in its last 11 games, playing in their seventh overtime game of the year.

    Gridiron Club of Greater Boston president Ray Gallant announced today that 16 NCAA Division II/III players are semifinalists for the 11th Joe Concannon Award, presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England playing at the D-II/III level.

    Middlebury outshot Williams 41-18 but had to settle for a 3-3 tie in NESCAC men’s hockey action Tuesday night in Kenyon Arena. Gaining one point in the standings, the Panthers (9-6-5, 7-4-4) and Ephs (11-6-3, 8-5-2) both move into a three-way tie for second place with Hamilton, all trailing league-leading Bowdoin by a point.

    Middlebury scored a pair of unanswered third period goals on its way to a 5-3 road win at St. Michael’s at Cairns Arena. Junior Martin Drolet scored twice, including the game-winner, and for Saint Michael’s, sophomore Brady Earle had a goal and an assist in the loss.

    The Middlebury men’s hockey team moved to 7-2-4 in its last 13 games, earning a 4-4 road tie at Norwich.  The teams added another chapter to their historic rivalry on Friday night in front of a sold-out crowd at Kreitzberg Arena.

    Middlebury lost for just the second time in its last dozen games as the Panthers fell at #12 Plattsburgh 2-1 in non-league action on Tuesday night. Middlebury returns to action on Friday, when they travel to fourth-ranked Norwich.

    Middlebury College men’s hockey player John Yanchek (Hillsborough, N.J.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. Yanchek saved 56 of 59 shots, leading Middlebury to a pair of NESCAC road wins at Colby and Bowdoin. After making 25 stops in a 4-1 win at Colby on Friday night, Yanchek made a season-high 31 saves as the Panthers knocked off Bowdoin 4-2 on Saturday.

    Goaltender John Yanchek made a season-high 31 saves to lead the Middlebury to a 4-2 road victory over fifth-ranked Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers deal Bowdoin its first home loss of the season and improve to 8-5-3 (6-4-2 NESCAC) while the Polar Bears fall to 13-4-0 (9-4-0 NESCAC) with the loss.  Middlebury improves to 7-1-3 in its last 11 games.

    Middlebury’s Charlie Strauss scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season as the Panthers scored three goals in the final 8:13 of play to pull away for a 4-1 victory over Colby College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference men’s hockey game Friday night at Alfond Rink.

    Middlebury completed a weekend sweep of NESCAC/ECAC play, as the Panthers picked up a 6-4 win over St. Anselm (6-6-1, 4-6-1) in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers (6-5-3, 4-4-2) have lost just once in their last nine outings, as they return to play at Colby and Bowdoin next weekend.
  • Third Period Surge Lifts Middlebury Past N.E.C.

    Middlebury scored four unanswered goals in the third period on its way to a 4-0 victory over N.E.C. (5-9-2, 3-6-1). The game was scoreless after two periods, with Middlebury holding a 28-8 shots advantage in the period, leading by a 47-16 margin in the game. The Panthers (5-5-3, 3-4-2) return to action on Saturday when they host St. Anselm at 4:00, while the Pilgrims visit Williams.

    Wesleyan earned its first win over Middlebury in 36 tries as the Cardinals (3-6-3, 2-5-1) picked up a 4-3 overtime victory over the Panthers (4-5-2, 2-4-1) in Kenyon Arena. The loss snaps Middlebury’s six-game unbeaten streak, as the home team held a 34-22 shot advantage in the game.

    Middlebury extended its unbeaten streak to six games (3-0-3) with a 1-1 tie against Trinity in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers (4-4-3, 2-3-2) return to action on Saturday when they host Wesleyan at 3:00, while the Bantams (4-5-3, 2-4-1) visit Williams. Before the game, Middlebury celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 1960-61 team that went 19-2, as the players were introduced before the game.

    Middlebury College men’s hockey player Martin Drolet (Montreal, Que.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. The junior scored two goals while adding three assists in a 1-0-2 week for the Panthers. The junior scored twice, including the game-tying power play goal in the third period at Hamilton.

    Middlebury snapped Amherst’s six-game unbeaten streak as the Panthers earned a 4-1 NESCAC road win at Orr Rink. The Lord Jeffs  drop to 6-3-2 overall and picked up their first conference loss (4-1-1), while Middlebury moves to 4-4-2 (2-3-1).

  • Men's Hockey Earns Tie With Southern Maine

    Middlebury outshot Southern Maine 38-22 on the night but had to settle for a 3-3 tie on Tuesday night in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers move to 3-4-1 on the year, while the Huskies see their record move to 4-4-2. Middlebury is now 2-3-2 against USM in their last seven meetings.
  • Men's Hockey Opens Year With Win

    Middlebury scored twice in each period on its way to a 6-3 win over Skidmore on New Year’s Day in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers improve to 3-4 on the season with the victory, while the Thoroughbreds fall to 3-6-1. Middlebury has now won 14 of 15 games played against Skidmore in the series history.

    Middlebury fell to 1-4 on the season, 0-3 in NESCAC/ECAC East league play as they dropped a 5-3 game at Southern Maine on Friday night. USM Sophomore Craig Perham snapped a 3-3 tie scoring a power-play goal with 7:52 remaining to lift the Huskies to the win.

    Junior Charles Nerbak (Martinsville, N.J.) and first-year Louis Belisle (Repentigny, Quebec) each scored twice as Middlebury defeated the University of New England 7-1 in an ECAC East/NESCAC crossover game played Saturday afternoon at Biddeford Arena.
