Middlebury cruised to a 6-1 win over St. Anselm in the consolation game of the Middlebury College Holiday Classic Tournament. The Panthers improve to 7-1 on the year and return to league play this weekend when they host Castleton and Skidmore.
Middlebury came out firing with three first period goals to take an early lead. Mason Graddock opened the scoring as he put home a rebound after a pair of shots were saved. Ian Drummond made it a 2-0 game with a shot from the high slot after a nice feed from behind the net by Mack Cummins. St. Anselm failed to convert on a pair of powerplays, as Alex Wyse kept it a 2-0 game with an impressive stop on a breakaway attempt by Martin Drolet. The Panthers went up by three at 16:07 as Tucker Donahoe found the back of the net from in front on the power play.
The lead grew to 4-0 as Charlie Strauss tipped in a shot from the outside by Drolet. Sullivan made it a 5-0 game at 11:05, before Joe Fernald scored on the power play for St. Anselm with a nice feed from Seth Goodrich.
