The Middlebury men's hockey team will look to defend their title when they host Williams on Saturday, March 1st at 4:00 p.m. in a NESCAC quarterfinal game. The Panthers are making their ninth consecutive trip to the tournament, having captured seven of eight previous conference titles.
The game will mark the 114th meeting in the series history. The Panthers hold a 70-36-7 all-time advantage, including a 2-1 win at Williams on January 15th. The teams met one year ago in a NESCAC quarterfinal game here in Kenyon Arena, with the Panthers skating away with a 5-1 win.
Tom Maldonado (8-18-26) leads the team in scoring this season, including four power play and three game-winning goals. Mickey Gilchrist (10-12-22) leads the team with five power play and four game-winners, while Jamie McKenna (7-14-21) is third on the team in scoring. Chaz Svoboda (6-13-19) and Scott Bartlett (7-10-17) round out the leading scorers. Ross Cherry is 9-3-2 with a 2.41 GAA and .879 SV% in goal, while Doug Raeder is 7-3 with a 2.80 GAA and .872 SV%.
Williams is making it ninth consecutive trip to the NESCAC Tournament. The Ephs have lost in the first round each of the last six years, advancing to the semifinals in '01 and the finals in '00.
Brandon Jackmuff (12-13-15) leads the team in scoring and has seven power play goals on the season. Alex Smigelski (9-12-21), Ryan Young (7-9-16), Steve Bruch (4-11-15) and Andrew Lepore (4-10-14) round out the leading scorers. Marc Pulde has played a majority of the minutes in goal, sporting a 7-8-4 record with a 3.38 GAA and .912 save percentage.
