Middlebury scored three first period goals on its way to a 6-0 NESCAC win over Wesleyan. The Panthers are ranked seventh in the latest national poll and will host sixth-ranked Trinity on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
Mickey Gilchrist opened the scoring at 4:01 as he scored from the slot. Jed McDonald scored on a one-timer from Levi Doria for a power play goal at 7:04 to make it a 2-0 game. Tim Graham put home a rebound at 11:22 to give Middlebury a 3-0 lead after one period. Patrick Nugent scored the lone second period goal before Justin Gaines and Gilchrist sealed the win with third period goals. Doria and Tom Maldonado ended the game with two assists each, while Gilchrist had two goals and an assist.
Yen-I Chen made nine saves in goal to earn the shutout, while Steve Binswanger made 28 saves for the Cardinals.
