The Middlebury College men's ice hockey team will make its seventh final four appearance in the last 10 years at Norwich University this weekend. Middlebury advanced to the semifinals after a convincing 9-1 win over Wentworth in the quarterfinals at the Kenyon Arena. The Panthers qualified for the NCAA tourney with a 6-2 win over Trinity in the NESCAC title game.
The Panthers enter the weekend with more wins than any other school in NCAA Tournament play. The Panthers have amassed their record of 23-5-2 since being allowed to participate in the NCAA Tournament back in '93-'94. The defense leads the nation, allowing just 1.64 goals/contest this season. Middlebury also ranks in the top five in scoring (5.27 goals/game), scoring margin, winning percentage and penalty kill (.898). NESCAC Player of the Year Kevin Cooper leads the team in scoring this season with 33 goals and 22 assists for 55 points on the year. Adam Foote (14-21-35), Evgeny Saidachev (10-19-29) and John Dawson (14-13-27) round out the top scorers. Marc Scheuer has become the team's top netminder with a 15-2 record and a nation's best 1.43 goals against average. He also ranks in the top 10 with a .923 save percentage and a .882 winning percentage.
