Cooper Named National Player Of The Year

Middlebury College men's hockey player Kevin Cooper (Mississauga, Ont.) has been named the AHCA (American Hockey Coaches Association) Division III National Player of the Year. Along with the honor, he was also selected as a first-team All-American. He is the fourth Panther to win the award, following Mark Spence '98, Ian Smith '96 and Ray Alcindor '93.

Cooper, who is also a two-time NESCAC Player of the Year, has led the Panthers to a 25-3 season as they head into the final four on March 19-20th. The senior is now a three-time All-American after being named to the first-team last season and the second team in '02.

Cooper leads the team with 33 goals and 22 assists for 55 points on the season. He is second in the nation with 1.96 points/game, second with 1.18 goals/game, fourth with five game-winners and fourth with four short handed tallies. His 33 goals in '04 are a single-season and modern-day record, while he is the school's all-time leader in that category with 97 goals. Along with his 97goals, the senior has 60 assists for 157 points in his 112-game career as a Panther.
