Middlebury College men's hockey player Kevin Cooper (Mississauga, Ont.) will appear in the "Faces In The Crowd" section of Sports Illustrated in the April 12th issue that hits newsstands on April 8th. Cooper is the 12th person from Middlebury College to appear in the section since 1996.
Cooper capped off his senior year by scoring the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the Panthers to a 1-0 win over St. Norbert in the NCAA Championship game. Two days prior, he was named the AHCA (American Hockey Coaches Association) Division III National Player of the Year. Along with the honor, he was also selected as an All-American for the third straight season.
Cooper, who is also a two-time NESCAC Player of the Year, was named the New England Player of the Year this season. He ends his four years at Middlebury with an NCAA Championship, three NESCAC Championships and three trips to the final four.
He is the school's all-time leading modern day goal scorer with 99, while ranking fifth in points with 159. He is also atop the single-season records for goals in a season with 35 this year and 28 in '02. His 57 points this season put him third all-time for points in a season. He ends his 114-game career with 99 goals and 60 assists for 159 points.
