Beaney is in his 26th year as head coach of the Panther men’s golf team in 2019-20. He has led the team to eight NESCAC Championships, capturing seven of the last 13 titles. Middlebury has advanced to the NCAA Championship in each of those seven seasons. The Panthers have hosted the conference championship on the college owned Ralph Myhre Golf Course eight different times since 2000. Seven Middlebury golfers have earn medalist honors at the NESCAC Championship, with six earning the top finish at the league's qualifier in the fall. Beaney has been named the NESCAC Coach of the Year on five different occasions (2007, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016).
Beaney also spent 28 seasons (1987-2015) as the head coach of the men's hockey team at Middlebury, where he posted a record of 516-184-51 (.721). He led the team to a total of eight NCAA Championships, including a record five in a row from 1995‑99, with three additional titles from 2004‑06.
In January of 2019, Beaney was inducted into the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame.
