Middlebury jumped out to a 13-2 lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 100-76 win over Southern Vermont. The Panthers finish up their semester at Hamilton on Saturday, while the Mountaineers travel to Norwich on Thursday.
Andrew Harris scored five points during the opening run in the game's first 3:50. Southern Vermont cut the lead to four with 13:33 remaining in the half before the Panthers answered with a 14-2 run at the 7:30 mark. Tim Edwards scored the last six points of the half for Middlebury to give them a 53-33 lead at the intermission, shooting .667 from the floor.
Much of the same in the second half as the lead was cut to 17 before growing to as many as 30. Aaron Smith scored a game-high 21 points in the game on 7-9 shooting to go along with his seven rebounds. Harris poured in 20 with 10 boards, Edwards netted 11, while Ben Rudin had 10 points and eight assists.
Julian Smith led S. Vermont with 19, Albrey Kirkland scored 18, Chris Matte netted a dozen, while Nick Harrington had 10 points and 12 boards.
