Kris Gibbs-Smith scored 33 points on 13 of 16 shooting to lead visiting Plattsburgh to an 86-76 win over Middlebury. The Panthers return to action this weekend when they travel to Bowdoin and Colby to wrap up the regular season.
Plattsburgh took a 25-20 lead midway through the first half behind red-hot shooting from the floor, connecting on 11 of their first 16 shots. The Cardinals opened the second half on a 14-2 run to take a 58-44 lead with 14:44 left to play. Middlebury came back with an 8-0 run at the 6:04 mark, sparked by a pair of threes from Wil Hyatt, to cut the lead to 70-66 at the 4:41 mark. Leading by seven, Gibbs-Smith hit a three and converted a conventional three on their next trip, giving the Cardinals a 13-point lead with 2:05 remaining. Middlebury was forced to foul down the stretch, with the Cardinals converting 7 of 10 to seal the win.
Gibbs-Smith grabbed eight boards to go along with his 33 points to lead Plattsburgh. Anthony Williams added 16 points and eight rebounds, while Brian Hatch and Mike Dietz scored 11 points apiece.
