The Middlebury men's basketball team suffered a 65-61 NESCAC road loss at Williams on Saturday. The Panthers shot just .324 from the floor and 4 of 20 from behind the arc, but were in the game until the final buzzer.
Williams led 13-8 in the first half before an 8-0 run gave Middlebury a 16-13 lead with 6:43 remaining. The Ephs came back to tie the game at 22 before closing the half on a 5-0 run.
The home team led by nine twice early in the second half before a quick 6-0 run cut the lead to one with 12:19 remaining. Middlebury would tie the game twice before eventually taking a 52-50 lead on a hoop from Evan Thompson with 3:48 remaining.
Williams would then hit a two and a three for a five-point lead with 1:01 left on the clock. The Panthers fouled down the stretch, but saw the Ephs connect on 8 of 10 shots to seal the win.
Ben Rudin led the Panthers with 10 points, Andrew Harris added nine, while Wil Hyatt scored eight.
Andrew Newton led Williams with 19, while Chris Rose added 16.
