MacDonald joined the staff in the fall of 2016 and enters his fourth season with the Panthers in 2019-20. A 2013 graduate of Hamilton, he came to Middlebury from Dickinson, where he coached the linebackers in his first season of collegiate coaching.
MacDonald was a four-year starter at middle linebacker for the Continentals, serving as a team captain in 2011 and 2012. He earned second-team All-NESCAC honors as a junior, moving up to the first team during his senior season. He finished his career second all-time in tackles at Hamilton with 301.
During his senior year, MacDonald ranked third in the NESCAC with 82 tackles, and tied for second with 50 solo tackles and two fumble recoveries. As a junior, MacDonald was third in the conference with 88 tackles, tied for sixth with 9.5 tackles-for-loss, and tied for ninth with four sacks. The two-time team captain led the Continentals in tackles as a sophomore with 73 stops.
MacDonald was named to the NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team as a senior and was presented the Jack B. Riffle Scholarship Award as the college’s outstanding male senior athlete. He received his BA in economics.
A graduate of Seton Hall Prep, MacDonald earned first-team all-conference honors in football and received all-county and all-state recognition as a senior. He also played lacrosse, serving as a team captain during his senior year.
