Three Baseball Players Earn NESCAC Honors

Middlebury College baseball player Henry Strmecki (Wilton, Conn.) has earned First-Team All-NESCAC honors, while senior Colby Morris (Del Mar, Caif.) and junior Brooks Carroll (Davidson, N.C.) earned a spot on the second team. The trio helped guide the Panthers to a 26-13 record in 2019 with a trip to the NESCAC Championship game.

Strmecki was second on the team with a .341 batting average this spring, leading the team and placing second in the NESCAC with six home runs. His 39 runs scored led the team and were third in the NESCAC, while his 23 stolen bases were second on the squad and also third in the league. Strmecki paced the team with three triples and was third with 28 runs batted in, while owning 11 multiple-hit games this spring. The sophomore also boasted a perfect fielding percentage in center field with 68 chances.

Morris was a first-team All-NESCAC selection a year ago and the NESCAC Pitcher of the Year. He had a solid spring once again in 2019, earning a 5-3 mark with a 3.25 ERA, setting a single-season Middlebury record with 72 innings pitched. His 56 strikeouts this spring were third-most in school history. Morris ends his career as a Panther as the school's all-time leaders in wins (18), games started (39), innings pitched (256) and appearances (49). He ranks second in strikeouts with 174 and is tied for fourth with 14 complete games.

Carroll hit .325 this spring with 27 runs scored. His 29 RBI were second on the team and seventh in the league, his 25 walks were tops at Middlebury and fifth in the NESCAC, while his 21 stolen bases were third as a Panther and fourth among his NESCAC peers. The junior earned 14 multiple-hit games this spring, surpassing the 100 career-hit plateau. Carroll made just eight errors in 165 chances this season at shortstop for a .952 fielding percentage. He was also recently named a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District I First-Team Academic All-District selection.
