  • Middlebury Cited for Academic Excellence by ABCA
    August 08, 2018
    The Middlebury baseball program was one of nearly 300 college and high school programs honored with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2017-18 academic year. Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were recognized with the award, which cites teams coached by ABCA members that posted a grade point average over 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.
  • Erickson Inducted Into Phi Beta Kappa

    Middlebury College baseball pitcher Robert Erickson (Dallas, Texas) was one of 51 students recently elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest honor society for the liberal arts and sciences in the United States. The event was the 150th Phi Beta Kappa induction in Middlebury's history.
  • Morris Earns Spot on D3Baseball.com Squad

    Middlebury College baseball pitcher Colby Morris (Del Mar, Calif.) has been named to the D3baseball.com All-New England Region third-team. The junior was recently named the NESCAC Pitcher of the Year and earned a spot on the first team.
  • NESCAC Spring All-Academic Team Members Honored

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) has announced its 2018 Spring All-Academic Selections. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.40. A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution. The following are Middlebury's 131 representatives, the second-highest total in the conference.
  • NESCAC Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams Announced

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its Spring All-Sportsmanship Team for each spring sport sponsored by the conference. The All-Sportsmanship Team is composed of one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship. The student-athlete selected must be in good academic standing and a member of the team at the conclusion of the season in order to be eligible for selection.
  • Morris Named NESCAC Pitcher of the Year, Carroll Tabbed Defensive Player of the Year, Han Honored

    Three members of the Middlebury College baseball team were honored when the NESCAC announced its all-conference teams. Junior Colby Morris (Del Mar, Calif.) was named the NESCAC Pitcher of the Year and earned a spot on the first team, while sophomore Justin Han (Vienna, Va.) was also a first-team selection. Sophomore Brooks Carroll (Davidson, N.C.) was deemed the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year. The group helped lead the Panthers to a 16-16 mark in 2018.
  • Middlebury Falls at Division I Dartmouth

    Middlebury closed out the 2018 campaign with a non-conference match-up at NCAA Division I Dartmouth, as the Big Green used a six-run third inning to carry them to a 12-1 victory Wednesday at Bondi Park. The Panthers finished the season at an even 16-16.
  • Morris Named NESCAC Pitcher of the Week

    Middlebury College baseball player Colby Morris (Del Mar, Calif.) has been named as the NESCAC Pitcher of the Week. The junior threw a complete-game, three-hit shutout in a game-one victory over Amherst, striking out five batters. He is tied for the NESCAC lead with five wins and 52 strikeouts, while pacing the league with 63.1 innings pitched. He and his teammates will wrap up their season at Dartmouth on Wednesday.
  • Middlebury Denied Playoff Bid by Amherst

    Amherst jumped out to an early 5-1 lead and held off a couple of late Middlebury rallies, as the Mammoths earned a NESCAC West series win with an 8-5 triumph Sunday. Amherst (21-12, 8-4) also earned the final spot in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament by taking two-of-three games with the Panthers. Middlebury (16-15, 6-6) closes out the season with a midweek contest at Division I Dartmouth on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
  • Baseball Splits With Amherst, Sets Up Sunday Game For Tournament Bid

    Middlebury blanked Amherst 7-0 in game one, but the Mammoths (20-12, 7-4) took game two 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at Forbes Field. The teams will play game three of the NESCAC West series on Sunday at noon, with the winner earning a bid to the upcoming NESCAC Tournament.

Middlebury (15-13) finishes the regular season this weekend with three-game NESCAC West series with Amherst, starting with a doubleheader Saturday at 12:00 p.m. on Forbes Field
  • Baseball Downs Union to Win Eighth Straight

    Middlebury received a strong start from Colin Waters, as the Panthers picked up a 6-3 win over Union (25-7) on Forbes Field Tuesday afternoon. Middlebury (14-13) returns to action at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Plattsburgh State, while Union will host Trinity at 6:30 p.m. on the same day.
  • Panthers Complete Three-Game Sweep At Hamilton

    Middlebury took both ends of a doubleheader at Hamilton on Saturday, giving the Panthers a three-game sweep in their NESCAC West series. Middlebury started the day with a 9-3 victory, capped with a 10-3 triumph in the nightcap. Middlebury (13-13, 5-4) was slated to play two games against Trinity on Sunday, but those games have been cancelled, putting the team’s next contest Tuesday at home against Union.

  • Panthers Sweep Bowdoin Behind Walk-Off Hit and Pitching Gem

    Middlebury utilized a walk-off hit for the second day in a row during the day’s first game, followed by a complete-game shutout from Robert Erickson in the nightcap for a doubleheader sweep of Bowdoin on Sunday. The Panthers took game one by a 5-4 count, and completed the sweep of the three-game weekend series with a 3-0 triumph in the second contest. Middlebury (10-13) is back on the diamond Wednesday with a road contest at Plattsburgh State, while the Polar Bears (11-16) take on Division I Maine that same evening.

    The Middlebury baseball team battled back to tie Tuesday’s home opener on Forbes Field at 10-10, but Southern Vermont scored twice in the eighth and hung on for a 12-11 win. The Panthers (6-13) return to the field on Friday when they host Amherst in NESCAC West action at 4:00 p.m., while the Mountaineers (5-10) travel to Norwich on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. 
  • Middlebury Drops Series Finale at Wesleyan

    Wesleyan scored seven times in the bottom of the first inning, before holding off a Middlebury rally, as the Cardinals posted a 10-6 win Sunday in Connecticut. Wesleyan (13-6, 3-0) took all three games of the NESCAC West series. The Panthers return to the field Tuesday for their home opener, hosting Southern Vermont at 3:30 p.m.

    The Middlebury baseball team dropped both ends of a NESCAC West doubleheader Saturday at Wesleyan. The Cardinals (12-6, 2-0) scored a single tally in the first inning and made it stand up for a 1-0 victory in the opener, while using a six-run second to post a 12-8 victory in the nightcap. The Panthers (6-11, 2-3) and Wesleyan wrap up their three-game series with a 12:00 p.m. first pitch on Sunday.
  • Weather Forces Changes to Baseball Schedule

    The Middlebury baseball schedule has been moved around due to wet weather in the region. The opening contest of a NESCAC West series at Wesleyan, originally scheduled for Friday, has been moved to Sunday with the first pitch set for 12:00 p.m. Saturday’s twinbill with the Cardinals is still scheduled to be played at 12:00 p.m. A game originally scheduled for Sunday at Trinity will now be played at Middlebury on Sunday, April 29 at 1:00 p.m.

    The Middlebury baseball team split a pair of games against Williams in California on Saturday, taking the opening seven-inning game 6-1 before the Ephs won the nine-inning nightcap, 5-3. The Panthers (6-9, 2-1) take the three-game NESCAC West series, 2-1and travel to Wesleyan next weekend, starting another three-game conference series.
  • Middlebury Opens NESCAC Action With Victory Over Williams

    Middlebury erupted for a season-high 20 runs in its NESCAC West opener Friday against Williams in California, cruising to a 20-1 victory. The Panthers (5-8, 1-0) scored in seven different innings and collected a season-best 19 hits. The teams conclude their three-game series Saturday out west, playing a doubleheader with the first game starting at 3:00 p.m. Eastern time.
  • Baseball Falls to #10 Redlands

    Middlebury hung tough with 10th-ranked Redlands (22-6), but found itself on the short end of a 4-1 contest in California. The Panthers (4-8) are off Thursday before playing Williams in game one of a NESCAC West series on the campus of La Verne on Friday.

    Middlebury came back from a 4-0 deficit for an 8-5 win over Caltech (3-19) on Tuesday in California. The Panthers (4-7), who have won three of their last four games, return to action on Wednesday at No. 10 Redlands.
  • Panthers Defeat Whittier in 10 Innings

    Middlebury needed extra innings for the second-straight day, plating a pair of runs in the 10th for a 6-4 win over Whittier (15-10). The Panthers (3-7) return to action on Tuesday with a contest at Caltech.
  • Baseball Downs Claremont, Falls to Pomona
    March 25, 2018
    Middlebury played two games on Sunday during its spring break trip to California. In the first contest, the Panthers (2-7) needed an extra inning to pick up a 10-8 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (14-10). In the day’s second contest, Pomona-Pitzer (15-8) broke a scoreless tie with four in the eighth for a 4-2 win. The Panthers return to action on Monday at Whittier.
