  • Alpine Skiers Earn All-American Honors

    Four members of the Middlebury alpine ski team earned All-American honors at the recently-held NCAA Championships. The event was shortened to just two days of racing, with the alpine team competing in the giant slalom on day one at the Bridger Bowl in Bozeman, Montana. The top-10 finishers in the race were deemed All-Americans.

  • Nullmeyer Records Pair of Top-20 Slalom Finishes at Audi FIS Ski World Cup

    Middlebury’s Ali Nullmeyer (Toronto, Ont.) of the alpine ski team represented Canada at the 2020 Audi FIS Ski World Cup earlier this year, with events taking place in Flachau, Austria and Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. On January 14, she placed 16th in a field of 73 with a time of 1:56.90, while on February 16, Nullmeyer clocked in at 1:50.74 to earn 19th-place out of 63 competitors.
  • Ski Teams Headed To NCAA Championships

    Middlebury will send nearly a full squad of 11 racers to the NCAA Skiing Championships to be held March 11-14 at Bridger Bowl and Crosscut Mountain Sports Center in Bozeman, Montana. The championships will be hosted by the University of Montana-Bozeman. Three schools qualified a full squad of 12, while Middlebury is one of four institutions with 11 competitors.

    Middlebury alpine skier Erik Arvidsson (Woodside, Calif.) has been named the EISA Alpine Skier of the Week. Last week at the Williams carnival, the junior shared the giant slalom title with teammate Tim Gavett, before placing sixth in Saturday’s slalom race. He has finished in the top six during eight of 10 races this season, with a pair of victories.
  • Ski Team Wins Second-Straight Carnival - Alkier Claims Slalom

    The Middlebury ski team won its second-straight carnival on Saturday, taking home the crown at Williams. The Panthers finished with 855 points, followed by Vermont (843) and Dartmouth (752). Justin Alkier picked up a win in the slalom event, while the women’s nordic team won today’s relay race. Nordic competition was held at Mt. Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, N.Y., while the alpine events took place at Jiminy Peak in Hancock, Mass. Middlebury is off next weekend, before hosting its own carnival on February 28-29.

The men's alpine and women's nordic team were both victorious in their respective events on Friday, while Tim Gavett and Erik Arvidsson shared the GS title.  Nordic races are being held at Mt. Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, N.Y., while the alpine events took place at Jiminy Peak in Hancock, Mass.

    Middlebury picked up a big carnival win on Saturday, edging the University of Vermont by just two points (850-848) to take home the title. Justin Alkier picked up a win victory on the alpine side, as did Alexandra Lawson for the nordic team.

    Middlebury alpine skier Justin Alkier (Toronto, Ont.) has been named the EISA Alpine Skier of the Week. Although he missed the GS podium by a tenth of a second and finished fourth, Alkier came back with a vengeance on Saturday morning to get the win in slalom at the Vermont Carnival.

    The Panther ski teams finished second among 15 scoring teams at the University of Vermont Carnival. The hosts won the event with 903 points, followed by the Panthers (875), Dartmouth (833) and UNH (643). Middlebury individuals won three of the four events on Saturday, with a second-place finish in the fourth race.

    The Middlebury ski teams finished second overall at the opening carnival of the season hosted by Harvard. Vermont won the event with 867 points, followed by Middlebury (863) and Dartmouth (839). Alpine races took place at the Waterville Valley Resort in Waterville, N.H., while nordic races were contested in Vermont at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center. The Panthers return to action next weekend at the University of Vermont Carnival.

    The Middlebury men’s alpine team returns a solid core of veterans, while the women’s squad will have some holes to fill for the 2020 carnival season. Last season, the Panthers won their own carnival, while placing third in each of the other five competitions. The alpine squad qualified a full team for the NCAA Championships, placing 10th overall.

    Middlebury alpine skier Ali Nullmeyer (Toronto, Ont./Green Mountain Valley School) will represent Canada this Sunday in a World Cup race at Killington, Vermont. Nullmeyer is a member of the Canadian National Team and raced in the opening World Cup slalom event last weekend in Levi, Finland. Nullmeyer hopes to compete for both the Canadian National Team this winter, while competing on the EISA Carnival circuit for the Panthers.
