One day of alpine and nordic racing are now complete at the 2014 NCAA Skiing Championships hosted by the University of Utah. Middlebury sits in 11th place overall, pacing all Division III schools. Denver leads the event with 299 points, followed by Utah (248), Colorado (241) and New Mexico (231). Action returns to Park City on Friday with the men's and women's slalom races beginning at 11:00 a.m. EST.
Athletes converged on Soldier Hollow Resort on Thursday for the women's 5K and the men's 10K classical events. The Panthers had two women in action, as Heather Mooney and Stella Holt both competed. Mooney covered the course in 14:55, good for 22nd place overall. Holt finished in just over 15 minutes, earning herself a 28th-place finish. Anja Gruber of UVM won the 38-person event with a time of 13:38.
Unfortunately for Middlebury, All-American Ben Lustgarten, who qualified for the NCAAs, is injured and was unable to compete.
