Day One Complete At Williams Carnival

Middlebury is in a fourth-place tie at the Williams Carnival after day one of competition. Vermont leads the event (497), followed by Dartmouth (420), Colby (307), Williams (292) and Middlebury (292). The nordic events are taking place at Prospect Mountain while the alpine events were held at Jiminy Peak. The slalom races were contested on Friday, while the nordic teams competed in team relays. The men’s slalom team was stellar on day one, with four of the top-eight finishers.

Hig Roberts once again led the squad with his third top-five slalom finish in his last three races. The senior covered the course with a time of 1:34.95. Colin Hayes earned his best finish of the year by placing sixth (1:35.83), while Ghassan Gedeon-Achi also earned a season-best seventh-place finish (1:35.84).

Earning his sixth overall top 10 finish of the season was Christopher McKenna, who came in eighth place with a time of 1:36.08. Nick Bailey earned his best finish in ‘14, finishing the slalom in 10th place in 1:36.40.

The top finisher for the women’s squad was Kara Shaw, who completed her two runs in 1:40.24, good for 13th place. Yina Moe-Lange wasn’t far behind with a 20th-place finish (1:40.92), followed by Katelyn Barclay in 25th (1:41.32). Just a spot behind Barclay was Elle Gilbert, who earned a time of 1:41.59 in 26th place.

Both of the top Panthers relay teams placed ninth in the 3x5 race. Patrick McElravey, Dylan McGarthwaite and Ben Lustgarten finished with a time of 31:34 overall to represent the Panther men. Lustgarten, who was making his return for the Panthers, finished the event with the fastest lap time.

On the women’s side, Heather Mooney, Kaitlin Fink and Stella Holt finished with a time of 38:34.
