  • Former Panther Wins World Cup Race

    Simi Hamilton '09 of Aspen, Colo., led qualifying and powered his way through the heats for a win, taking a World Cup stage victory in the Tour de Ski at Lenzerheide. It was the first win ever by an American man in the grueling Tour. 
  • Roberts To Compete For U.S. At World University Games

    Middlebury College alpine skier and team captain Hig Roberts (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) has been chosen to compete for the U.S. Alpine Ski Team in the World University Games in Trentino, Italy. Roberts, who is one of six members of the U.S. National University Team, is scheduled to compete in the slalom, giant slalom and Super G events in the Val di Fassa on December 15th, 17th and 19th.
  • Moe-Lange Competes At World Cup

    Middlebury alpine skier Yina Moe-Lange recently competed in her first World Cup GS in Beaver Creek, Colorado. Representing Denmark, Moe-Lange had a solid first run but was unable to make the top 30 cut for the second run. Middlebury assistant alpine coach Abby Copeland was on hand, also earning her first World Cup coaching experience. Moe-Lange is taking the semester off at Middlebury while training and racing for Denmark, with hopes of qualifying for the 2013 Sochi Olympics.
  • Honors Continue For Donaldson

    Middlebury College alpine skier David Donaldson (Toronto, Ont.) has been named the Men’s Collegiate Alpine Skier of the Year by Ski Racing Magazine, the largest industry publication for ski racing. Donaldson had an amazing NCAA season for the Panthers, capping it off with All-American honors.
  • Johnson Named Nordic Ski Coach

    Former Middlebury skier and two-time U.S. Olympian Andrew Johnson has been named the new head coach of the nordic ski program at Middlebury College. Johnson comes to Middlebury from the University of Vermont, where he served as an assistant coach for the past three years, helping the Catamounts to the 2012 NCAA title.
  • Donaldson Earns Spot On World Cup Circuit

    Middlebury College alpine skier David Donaldson (Toronto, Ont.) capped off the most impressive winter of competition for an Eastern collegiate skier by placing second in the Audi Coupe Nor-Am Cup giant slalom standings. As a result of his dominant performance this season, the senior earned himself a starting spot in every giant slalom race next winter on the most prestigious circuit of alpine ski racing, the FIS World Cup.
  • Four Skiers Boast All-American Honors

    Four Middlebury College skiers earned All-American honors with their recent performances at the 2013 NCAA Championships. Junior Ben Lustgarten (Burlington, Vt.) earned the honor twice on the nordic side, while senior David Donaldson (Toronto, Ont.), junior Hig Roberts (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) and sophomore Mary Sackbauer (Vail, Colo.) represented the alpine team.

    Middlebury posted the best team score in the men’s slalom at the NCAA Skiing Championships for the second straight year, seeing a pair of skiers finish in All-America positions Friday at the Middlebury Snow Bowl. David Donaldson led the way for the Panthers, placing second in a two-run time of 1:39.24 to claim first-team All-America honors.
  • Panthers Sit In 10th Place After Two Days Of NCAA Skiing

    Benjamin Lustgarten blazed to a fourth-place finish in the men's 10K classic nordic race Thursday, leading host Middlebury College’s showing on the second day of the 2013 NCAA Skiing Championships at Rikert Ski Center. The Panther Lustgarten completed the course in 26:32.6 to pick up first-team All-America recognition.

  • Ski Team Set To Host NCAA's

    For the fifth time in school history, Middlebury College will be the host site for the NCAA Skiing Championships. The Panthers will host the 60th annual event from March 6-9, 2013, with alpine events taking place at the Middlebury College Snow Bowl, and nordic events being contested at the Rikert Nordic Center. Middlebury previously hosted the event in 1961, 1973, 1988 and 2001.
  • Middlebury prepares to host the NCAA Skiing Championships, March 6-9

    The best collegiate skiers in the country will receive the red-carpet treatment next week when they arrive in Middlebury for the NCAA men’s and women’s Alpine and Nordic skiing championships, March 6-9. Skiers from as far away as Alaska, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado, and from as close by as UVM, Harvard, St. Lawrence and Williams will start arriving in Vermont over the weekend, and will begin practicing at the Middlebury College Snow Bowl and the Rikert Nordic Center on Monday, March 4.
  • Ski Teams Earn All-East Awards - Donaldson With Top Honor, Copeland Is Coach Of The Year

    Five members of the Middlebury College ski team were honored when the EISA (Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association) announced its post-season awards. Senior David Donaldson (Toronto, Ont.) won the Podiumwear Leader Bib award as the top alpine racer in the giant slalom this season. Panther alpine assistant coach Abby Copeland was named the EISA Alpine Coach of the Year.
  • Ski Team Fourth At EISA Championships

    The Middlebury College ski team finished fourth overall at the EISA Championships, hosted by Bates. Vermont came back to win the carnival with 939 points, followed by Dartmouth (908), UNH (690) and Middlebury (689). David Donaldson made five wins in six attempts in the giant slalom, picking up a victory on day one. Hig Roberts took home a title on day two, finishing with a time of 1:58.46 to take the slalom.

  • Roberts Is EISA Alpine Skier Of The Week

    Middlebury College skier Hig Roberts has been named the men's EISA Alpine Skier of the Week. The Panther junior has been coming on strong as of late, with some impressive finishes. Last weekend at the Snow Bowl, Roberts turned in a pair of fourth place efforts. On Friday, he finished with a time of 1:35.40 in the slalom, while coming in at 2:03.43 in the giant slalom on Saturday. 
  • Ski Teams Finish Third At 90th Middlebury Carnival

    The Middlebury ski team finished in third place overall at the 90th annual Middlebury College winter carnival. UVM won the event (933), followed by Dartmouth (859), Middlebury (766) and UNH (734). The men’s GS team earned the best finish of the day, placing second overall.
  • Panthers Third After Day One At Own Carnival - Pokorny Wins 5K

    Middlebury sits in third place after one day of competition at the 90th annual Middlebury College Carnival. The Panthers finished third in all events, with a second place effort from the men’s slalom team. UVM leads after day one with 454 points, followed by Dartmouth (443) and Middlebury (385).
  • Ski Team Set To Host 90th Winter Carnival

    Middlebury College will host its 90th annual winter carnival on Friday, February 15th and Saturday, February 16th. The nordic races will be contested at the Rikert Nordic center, while the alpine events will be held at the Middlebury College Snow Bowl.
  • Ski Team Action Continues At Dartmouth - Donaldson Wins On Day One

    With a blizzard bearing down on much of the East Coast this weekend, EISA officials, coaches, athletes, and volunteers alike faced numerous challenges to complete all events of the Dartmouth Carnival. After the postponement of only the alpine slalom races, the day one points were doubled to produce final results. UVM won the event with 713 points, followed by Dartmouth (675) and Middlebury (565).
  • Rikert Nordic Center Now Has Snowmaking

    Middlebury College has completed the installation of snowmaking equipment on five kilometers of trails at the Rikert Nordic Center, a 50-kilometer cross-country skiing area in Ripton, Vt., owned and operated by the college. 
  • Nordic Completes UVM Carnival - Pokorny Wins 5K

    Middlebury finished fourth overall as the UVM Carnival came to an end on Sunday afternoon. The host school won the event with 868 points, followed by Dartmouth (860), UNH (744) and Middlebury (673).
  • Donaldson & Lustgarten Win At Colby, Panthers Finish Fourth

    Middlebury finished in fourth place overall at the three-day Colby Carnival. Vermont (962) won the event, followed by Dartmouth (845), UNH (746) and the Panthers (709). Middlebury had a winner on both the alpine and nordic side on the weekend.
  • Donaldson Is EISA Skier Of The Week

    Middlebury College alpine skier David Donaldson has been named the men's EISA Alpine Skier of the Week. The Panther senior has won three of four events that he's taken part in so far this carnival season. Last weekend at St. Lawrence, Donaldson took home wins in both the slalom and giant slalom races, after winning the GS in the season-opening race at UVM.

    With a strong showing by the men's alpine team, Middlebury sits in fourth place after one day of action at the St. Lawrence Carnival. David Donaldson won the giant slalom for the second straight week, finishing with a time of 1:58.14.
  • Ski Team Fourth After Alpine Events At UVM Carnival

    The Middlebury alpine ski team finished in fourth place after two days of racing at the UVM Carnival. The nordic events for the carnival will be contested on February 2nd and 3rd. David Donaldson opened the season with a win in the men's giant slalom on Friday, finishing with a time of 2:02.72.
  • Pokorny and Mooney Qualify For U.S. Team - Pokorny Wins College Cup
    January 11, 2013
    Middlebury nordic skiers Annie Pokorny and Heather Mooney recently competed at the U.S. Cross Country Championship. Pokorny won the “collegiate cup” as the top female college athlete at the event that concluded Tuesday, January 8th on the Olympic courses at Soldier Hollow, Utah. Both athletes qualified to ski for the U.S. at the World U-23 championships to be held in Liberic, Czech Republic at the end of January.
