The Panther ski teams wrapped up action at the 94th annual Williams winter carnival with a fifth place finish overall. Dartmouth (892) won the event, edging UVM (890), UNH (705) and Williams (685.5). The men's slalom team paced Middlebury racers, finishing second overall.
Junior Nicole Dvorak (Essex Junction, Vt.) turned in a pair of solid performances on the alpine side for the women, placing third in the slalom (1:32.76), while earning an eighth place finish in the giant slalom (1:45.08). First-year racer Christine Schozer (Winhall, Vt.) came in 23rd in the GS (1:48.31), while placing 27th (1:37.40) in the slalom, while senior Leah McLaughry (Norwich, Vt.) was 31st in the slalom (1:38.56) and junior Lindsay Kraft (Coldstream, B.C.) was 14th (1:45.06) in the GS.
First-year racer Brian Shpall (Englewood, Colo.) was the top combined finisher for the men, placing sixth in the slalom (1:29.30) and 12th in the GS (1:40.33). Earning the top individual finish on the men's side was junior Jacob Lund (Hudson, Wis.), who finished fourth overall (1:29.19) in the slalom race. First-year racer Andrew McNealus (Woodstock, Vt.) came in 13th (1:40.43) in the GS, senior Brian Swartz (Mendon, Vt.) was 21st (1:40.83) in the same event, while senior Jonathan Hunter (McAfee, N.J.) placed 19th (1:30.44) in the slalom.
Senior Lauren Fritz (Chugiak, Alaska) and first-year racers Corinne Prevot (East Burke, Vt.) and Keely Levins (Rutland, Vt.) scored for the women in the nordic races. In the 5K classic, Prevot finished 10th (17:11), Levins was 16th (17:31), while Fritz came in 18th (17:33). Prevot again led the threesome in the 5K free race, placing 20th overall in 15:27. Just behind her in 21st (15:28) was Fritz, followed by Levins in 32nd (15:46).
Junior Patrick Johnson (Anchorage, Alaska) continued to pace the nordic men, finishing second (29:10) in the 10K classic, while finishing 10th (26:56) in the 10K freestyle race. Sophomore Chase Marston (Charlotte, Vt.) scored in both events as well, finishing 13th (30:37) in the 10K classic (30:37) and 28th in the 10K free (28:13). Junior Jimmy Levins (Rutland, Vt.) came in 24th (28:01) for Middlebury in the 10K free race, while rookie Dylan Grald (Randolph Center, Vt.) had a solid 10th place (30:25) finish in the 10K classic.
