The Middlebury College ski teams turned in another solid performance last weekend as they placed second overall at the University of Vermont Carnival. The Catamounts won the event, followed by Middlebury, Dartmouth and UNH.
Sophomore Megan Hughes (Killington, Vt.) paced the women in the GS race, placing third overall with a time of 2:15.21. Finishing seventh was junior Lindsay Brush (Charlotte, Vt.) in 2:16.69, followed by sophomore Krissy Poehling (LaCrosse, Wis.) in 13th (2:19.33).
Middlebury placed the third, fourth and fifth finishers in the slalom race the next day. First-year skier Mattie Ford (Plymouth, N.H.) led the group with a time of 1:30.73, followed by Brush (1:31.36) and Hughes (1:31.38).
Sophomore Alex Tarberry (N. Conway, N.H.) led the men in the GS, with a fourth place finish in 2:11.46. Just behind in fifth was first-year racer Andrew Wagner (Traverse City, Mich.) with a time of 2:11.76, followed by sophomore Richard Davisson (Bethel, Maine) in 11th (2:13.21).
Sophomore Clayton Reed (Stowe, Vt.) had an impressive second place finish (1:56.36) to lead the men in the slalom race. Finishing sixth was Tarberry (1:57.64), followed by Davisson in 15th (2:00.55).
On the nordic side, the relays were cancelled due to poor weather conditions, with day one scores being doubled for the final carnival results. Juniors Jenny Hamilton (Aspen, Colo.) and Evelyn Dong (Wayland, Mass.) led the women, finishing in a fifth place tie in the 5K classical, with a time of 19:10. Placing eighth (19:19) in the race for the Panthers was first-year racer Cassidy Edwards (Glen Arbor, Mich.).
Senior Garrott Kuzzy (Minneapolis, Minn.) led the men in the 10K race, placing second overall in 33:14. Finishing in sixth place with a time of 34:30 was senior Donovan Dums (Hayward, Wis.), followed by first-year racer Tim Reynolds (Bristol, Vt.) in seventh (34:32).
