Trailing 24-23, the Middlebury football team scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter on its way to a 37-24 win over Bowdoin in the home opener Saturday on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium.

  • Middlebury sophomore Peter Scibilia (Norfolk, Mass.) with 184 yards and senior Drew Jacobs (Marblehead, Mass.) with 105 yards became the first duo to rush for 100+ yards in a game since Terence Bradford and Brad Gottfred accomplished the feat in 1995.
  • Trailing by one at 24-23, Middlebury put together a quick six-play, 90-yard drive, resulting in a 16-yard touchdown run by sophomore quarterback Will Jernigan (Decatur, Ga.). The drive was set up by a 21-yard carry by Jacobs and a 48-yard scamper by Scibilia.
  • Middlebury drove 48 yards, all on the ground later in the final quarter, before senior wide receiver Conrado Banky (Katy, Texas) scored on an end-around rush from three yards out. The two-point conversion was good, giving the Panthers a 37-24 lead they would not relinquish.
  • Scibilia rushed for a career-high 184 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown, while Jacobs' 105 yards came on a career-best 22 carries. The Panthers gained 344 yards on the ground.
  • Senior quarterback Jake Meservy (Lawton, Okla.) completed 16 of 24 passes with two touchdowns and three interceptions.
  • Junior tight end Frank Cosolito (Medfield, Mass.) caught four passes for 55 yards and a touchdown to lead the receivers, while Banky finished with three receptions and a touchdown on 44 yards.
  • Junior Coltrane Marcus (Venice, Calif.) finished with 13 tackles (12 solo), while sophomore Jonathan Hobart (McKinney, Texas.) recorded nine stops, recovered a fumble that led to a touchdown, broke up a pass, had an interception and blocked a punt that resulted in another score in the fourth quarter.
  • For his efforts, Hobart was named the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week.
