Men's Lacrosse Goes 1-2 Last Week

The Middlebury men’s lacrosse team tallied a 1-2 record in three contests last week. The Panthers fell by a 9-3 score on Tuesday to St. Lawrence in a game played at SUNY Canton. Taking part in the Mustang Classic hosted by Stevenson, Middlebury dropped a 12-6 NESCAC decision on Friday to No. 7 Wesleyan, but rebounded the next day for a 16-11 win over eighth-ranked Dickinson.

  • Against St. Lawrence, Middlebury jumped out to a 2-1 lead after one quarter, but the Saints outscored the Panthers 7-1 in the middle two stanzas and eased to the 9-3 win.
  • Rookie Jack Sheehan (New York, N.Y.) finished with two goals for the Panthers.
  • In the contest with the Cardinals, Wesleyan raced out to a 6-1 lead after one quarter and a 9-2 edge at halftime.
  • The Panthers tallied four of the six goals in the third quarter, including a pair from senior Chase Goree (Alexandria, Va.) to pull to within 11-6, but Wesleyan recorded the lone tally of the final quarter for the 12-6 final score.
  • Rookie Tyler Forbes (Jamaica Plain, N.Y.) finished with two goals and two assists for the Panthers, while Goree scored twice with a helper. Senior Nick Peterson (Fairfax Station, Va.) recorded a game-high five ground balls and caused three turnovers.
  • Up by a 6-4 score at halftime against Dickinson, the Panthers started the third quarter with three-straight goals to go up 9-4. The Red Devils responded with a three-goal run, before the Panthers scored twice to make it 11-7 after three frames.
  • Dickinson went on its third three-goal spurt of the contest, making in an 11-10 game, but Middlebury posted five of the final six goals for the 16-11 final.
  • Forbes finished with a team-high five goals, while junior A.J. Kucinski (Cohasset, Mass.) and classmate Frank Cosolito (Medfield, Mass.) each had three goals and an assist in the contest,
  • Senior Charles Midgley (Scarborough, N.Y.) combined to make 37 saves over the three contests in the crease.
  • Kucinski extended his point streak to 38-straight games, including four goals and two assists last week.
