No. 8 Women’s Hockey Tallies 2-1 Week

The Middlebury women’s hockey team went 2-1 at home last week, including a split during a NESCAC series with Colby. On Tuesday, the Panthers scored once in each period for a 3-0 victory over seventh-ranked Norwich. Returning to NESCAC action, the Panthers scored a season-best six goals for a 6-2 triumph Friday over the Mules. The following day, the Mules made a late first-period goal stand up in a 1-0 victory over the hosts.

  • In Tuesday’s win over the Cadets, senior Katarina Shuchuk (Madison, Wis.) scored on the power play at 2:24 of the first period and doubled the advantage with 4:09 elapsed in the second stanza.
  • The hosts added an empty-net tally by senior Katherine Jackson (Portsmouth, R.I.) at the 19:18 mark for the final 3-0 score.
  • Sophomore Ellie Barney (Mequon, Wis.) had a goal and three assists in the win.
  • Junior goalie Lin Han (Toronto, Ont.) made 34 saves for her 11th career shutout.
  • In Friday’s victory, the Panthers scored twice within 40 seconds late in the opening period, including the first collegiate goal from rookie Ashley McDonald (New Fairfield, Conn.).
  • The Panthers exploded by scoring four goals in the second period, highlighted by a power-play tally from rookie Jenna Letterie (Winthrop, Mass.).
  • Middlebury held a 36-12 advantage in shots and Han recorded 10 saves.
  • Sophomore goalie Anna Goldstein (Edina, Minn.) finished with 22 saves during Saturday’s contest.
