Track & Field Fares Well at California Collegiate Invite

The Middlebury track and field teams concluded their annual spring trip to California taking part in the California Collegiate Invitational hosted by UC San Diego. The Panther women finished fifth out of 16 teams with 78.5 points that featured teams from all three NCAA divisions, while the men tied for sixth of 17 and accumulated 59 points.

On the women’s side, sophomore Abigail Nadler (Chicago, Ill.) stopped the clock with the second-fastest time in the 5,000-meter run (17:57.24). A trio of fourth-place efforts came from rookie Talia Ruxin (Lexington, Mass.) in the 5,000-meter run (18:04.00), sophomore Basia Osborne (North Easton, Mass.) during the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.58) and senior Cate Skinner (Philadelphia, Pa.) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:16.23).

Another top-five individual effort was recorded by rookie Anna Willig (Phoenixville, Pa.) in the 800-meter run (2:12.76).

The 4x100-meter relay team of rookie Marisa Edmondson (Paonia, Colo.), junior Natalie Cheung (Red Wood City, Calif.), senior Maddie Pronovost (Brookline, Mass.) and rookie Elizabeth Walkes (Newton, Mass.) claimed the third-fastest time in the event of 49.25, while the 4x400-meter relay was fifth in 4:01.77.

During field events, junior Devon Player (Phoenixville, Pa.) tossed the javelin to a runner-up effort of 134’3”, while sophomore Kristin Kimble (Sudbury, Mass.) was fifth in the high jump (5’2.25”).

In the men’s competition, rookie Nathan Hill (Hinsdale, Ill.) raced to a third-place finish in the 800-meter run (1:54.85), while junior James Mulliken (Westport, Conn.) was fifth during the 400-meter run (50.06). The 4x100-meter relay of sophomore Noah Wagner-Carlberg (Glen Ridge, N.J.), rookie Nicholas Hendrix (East Molesey, U.K.), junior Jackson Barnett (Oakland, Calif.) and senior Adam Markun (Topanga, Calif.) crossed the line in fifth (43.91).

Off the track, sophomore John Natalone (Dix Hills, N.Y.) cleared the bar in third place during the pole vault (15’1”), while sophomore Alfred Hurley (New York, N.Y.) was fifth in the javelin (175’7”).
