The Middlebury volleyball team posted a 3-0 record and didn’t surrender a set during a trio of matches at the Smith Invitational. During Friday’s action, the Panthers defeated Manhattanville 3-0, and followed that up with a pair of 3-0 triumphs on Saturday over Ursinus and Smith.
Fourth-ranked Middlebury opened its season with a 2-0 NESCAC victory over Connecticut College Sunday afternoon on Kohn Field. The Panthers outshot their opponents 15-1 in the game, using a pair of second-half goals to pick up the win.
The Middlebury men’s soccer team tallied a 2-0 mark during a pair of matches last week, scoring the decisive goal early in each match. Senior Tyler Bonini (Avon, Conn.) scored 3:58 into Wednesday’s 1-0 road win over Norwich, and the Panthers followed up that performance with a header goal 2:13 into the match from junior Tom Bean (Waukee, Iowa) for a 1-0 home victory Saturday of NESCAC foe Connecticut College.
The Middlebury women’s soccer team posted a 1-0-1 record during a pair of home matches last week to open the 2015 season. Middlebury scored twice in each half on its way to a 4-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer Wednesday on Dragone Field. During Sunday’s NESCAC match with #19 Connecticut College, the team found the back of the net a little more than four minutes apart in a 1-1 draw.
The Middlebury men's golf team opened up its fall season at the two-day Williams Fall Invitational. The Panthers shot a two-day total of 630 (314-316) to finish in 12th place among 20 teams. Trinity won the event at the Taconic Golf Course with a 601, followed by host Williams (605).
The Middlebury women's tennis team opened its 2015-16 season by taking part in the annual Lindsay Morehouse Invitational hosted by Williams. During the two-day event, individuals from Middlebury, Skidmore, Vassar, Wesleyan and Williams squared off in three rounds of singles and doubles matches. No overall tournament winner was crowned at the end of the Invitational, rather the tournament is meant to celebrate the kickoff of the fall tennis season.
The Middlebury cross country teams began their respective 2015 seasons by competing at the Dartmouth Invitational at the Hanover Country Club. The women, ranked third nationally, finished third of five teams, while the 16th-ranked men were fifth of five squads in a meet comprised of Division I, II and III teams.
