Junior Matt Milano (New Canaan, Conn.) tied a career-high throwing four touchdown passes, including three in the first half to junior Matthew Minno (Tallahassee, Fla.), leading visiting Middlebury to a 27-7 victory over Trinity in NESCAC football action Saturday on Jessee/Miller Field. Trinity lost for the first time at home since September 29, 2001, a span of 53 games. Middlebury downed the Bantams for the second year in a row and for the first time on the road since a 20-3 triumph in 2000.
The third-ranked Middlebury field hockey team recorded a pair of home shutout victories last week. The Panthers had little trouble with in-state foe Castleton on Tuesday cruising by a 13-0 score, as the win marked the 300th career win in head coach Katharine DeLorenzo’s career. Middlebury completed its regular season with a 6-0 victory Saturday over Wesleyan.
A goal in the 88th minute from Middlebury senior Carter Talgo (Stamford, Conn.) gave the Middlebury women’s soccer team a 3-2 victory Saturday over Wesleyan on a windy Dragone Field as part of Senior Day. With the win, the Panthers clinched a playoff spot in this weekend's NESCAC Quarterfinal and will await their opponent.
The Middlebury men’s soccer team posted a 1-1 record last week. The Panthers dropped a 1-0 decision Tuesday during non-conference action to in-state foe Castleton, but rebounded Saturday for a 3-1 NESCAC home victory over Wesleyan. With the win, the Panthers clinched a home NESCAC Quarterfinal match next Saturday with an opponent to be determined.
The Middlebury volleyball team tallied a 2-2 record during four matches last week. In non-conference action Wednesday inside Pepin Gymnasium, the Panthers were defeated by Plymouth State, 3-2. Middlebury recorded a 2-1 mark during the annual Hall of Fame Tournament. The Panthers defeated Brandeis 3-1 on Friday evening, and were victorious in Saturday’s first match by a 3-2 count over M.I.T. The blue and white dropped the final match Saturday with a tough 3-2 setback to Springfield. The two-day tournament was co-hosted by Amherst and Smith.
