Third-ranked Middlebury recorded three wins during a trio of games last week. Middlebury cruised past St. Lawrence during its lone home match by a 7-0 score Wednesday on Kohn Field. The Panthers followed that performance up with two road wins including a 4-1 NESCAC win Saturday over Connecticut College and a 9-0 victory Sunday against Smith.
Trailing by four strokes after 18 holes, Rensselaer shaved 14 shots off their day one score to capture the 31st Annual Duke Nelson Tournament hosted by Middlebury College. The Engineers shot a 296 on day two, finishing with a two-day total of 605. James Jackson led the squad, earning medalist honors with a 146 (74-72). Action took place at the par-71 Ralph Myhre Golf Course on the Middlebury campus.
The Middlebury Men's Tennis Invitational has come to an end with the host school boasting eight of 12 spots in Sunday's finals. Matches were contested outdoors at the Proctor Courts on the Middlebury campus.
The Middlebury women's tennis team opened its 2014-15 season by taking part in the annual Lindsay Morehouse Invitational hosted by Williams. During the two-day event, individuals from Bowdoin, Skidmore, Vassar, Middlebury and Williams squared off in three rounds of singles and doubles matches. No overall tournament winner was crowned at the end of the Invitational, rather the tournament is meant to celebrate the kickoff of the fall tennis season.
The Middlebury men’s soccer team tallied a 2-0 mark during a pair of matches last week. The Panthers possessed a 22-2 shot advantage in cruising past visiting Norwich by a 4-0 score Wednesday, and followed it up with a 2-0 shutout Saturday of NESCAC foe and host Connecticut College.
The Middlebury women's golf team opened its 2014-15 season by recording a third-place finish at the 12-team NYU Invitational. The two-day event was contested at the par-72, 5,812-yard Spook Rock Golf Course, as the host Violets won the event with a combined total of 620. Mount Holyoke (639), Middlebury (641), Randolph-Macon (661) and Amherst (663) rounded out the top five teams.
The Middlebury cross country teams began their respective 2014 seasons by competing at the Dartmouth Invitational at the Hanover Country Club. The women, ranked third nationally, finished fourth of five teams, while the 12th-ranked men were sixth of six squads in a meet comprised of Division I, II and III teams.
The Middlebury volleyball team posted a 1-3 record during a quartet of matches at the UMass-Boston Tournament. During Friday’s action, Whitman edged past the Panthers 3-1, but Middlebury responded with a 3-0 victory over Western Connecticut State. On Saturday, the host Beacons beat the Panthers 3-0, and Salisbury defeated Middlebury 3-0.
The Middlebury women’s soccer team posted a 1-1 record during a pair of matches last week. Middlebury utilized two second-half goals on its way to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Keene State Wednesday on Dragone Field. During Saturday’s road NESCAC match with Connecticut College, the host Camels scored a pair in the second-half en route to a 3-0 win.
