  • MEN’S GOLF WINS BOWDOIN INVITE FOR SECOND-STRIAGHT YEAR

    The Middlebury men's golf team opened the fall season with a win during the 2014 Bowdoin Invitational Tournament at the 6,601-yard par 72 Brunswick Golf Club. The Panthers came in with a two-day total of 601, firing an impressive 299 during Sunday's action, the only team to break the 300 mark. Endicott (606), Providence (606), Bates (635) and St. Anselm (645) rounded out the top five at the 12-team tournament.

    Fifth-ranked Middlebury scored four goals in the opening 12:19 en route to a 4-1 season-opening NESCAC victory over 10th-ranked Amherst Sunday afternoon at Kohn Field.

    Ninth-ranked Amherst tied the game with just 20 seconds left, earning a 1-1 road tie at Middlebury on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers took the lead in the 80th minute, but could not hold on.

    The third-ranked Middlebury women’s soccer team posted a 1-1 record during a pair of home matches to open the 2014 season. Middlebury outshot Castleton 23-7 on its way to a 3-0 victory over the Spartans in the team's season-opener on Dragone Field on Thursday afternoon. During Sunday’s match with Amherst, the visitors took advantage of an own goal for the 1-0 win.
