The Middlebury men's golf team finished in a fourth-place tie among 21 teams competing at the Johnson & Wales Spring Invitational Tournament. Tufts won the event with a 610, followed by Williams (614), Manhattanville (621), Middlebury (622) and Salem (622). Action took place at the Cranston Country Club in Cranston, Rhode Island.
Seniors John Louie (Soledad, Calif.) and Charlie Garcia (Garden City, N.Y.) led the Middlebury efforts over the two-day event, each shooting a 155 to tie for 15th place. Louie shot a 74 on day one followed by an 81, while Garcia came in with a 77 and a 78. Sophomore Fitz Bowen (Kenilworth, Ill.) was next in a 25th-place tie, shooting a 75 and an 82 for a two-day total of 157. Senior Eric Laorr (Eden Prairie, Minn.) shot a pair of 79s to tie for 29th with a 158, while rookie Bennett Doherty (Bedford, N.H.) went 82 and 79 to tie for 41st with a 161.
